Reading is not only an important activity in human society, but also an important method for students to earn knowledge. Reading ability has become the basic ability to longlife learning with the arrival of information age. In today's society, the level of mathematics has become higher and higher, more and more places need people to have some mathematics reading ability.Mathematical reading is a psychological activity process to gain signification from the written language of mathematics, and it is also a summation constituted by a series of psychological activities (including apperception, understanding, memory and etc) as well as thinking activities (including analysis, synthesis, synthesis, reasoning, judgment, conclusion, illation and etc).The stage of junior middle school is an important and critical stage to develop students'mathematical reading ability. But in our country, the junior middle school students have more or less mathematical reading barriers. These barriers affect the students'development of mathematics reading ability. The study on the mathematical reading barriers of junior middle school students will benefit for teachers. It can help teachers to adopt suitable teaching strategies and help students to overcome barriers and enhance their reading ability. The intention of this research covers the following issues:①Explore mathematical reading barriers that junior middle school students have, and find reasons that lead to these barriers.②Explore the main teaching strategy to help students to overcome the mathematical reading barriers.First, this paper has analyzed the basic theory of mathematical reading, such as the reading connotation and pattern, mathematical reading connotation and particularity, psychological process of mathematical reading, educational function of mathematical reading. Through analyzing these theories and consulting literatures, the current mathematics reading research pay less attention to reading barriers. The term"mathematical reading barriers"was defined in the paper: when people who have normal IQ and without obvious defects read mathematical materials that are in good agreement with their knowledge, they don't understand the content accurately, can't acquire information effectively, can't deal with and apply information properly, then they can't reach the reading goal . This phenomenon is called"mathematical reading barriers".Then, based on the theoretical analysis, the paper has investigated mathematical reading barriers of junior middle school students and analyzed the main reading barriers, such as carelessness, attention deficit in reading, less ability in acquiring and deal with information , barriers in reading long and difficult sentences. Based on the theoretical analysis and empirical research, the paper has analyzed reasons why junior middle school students have mathematical reading barriers. Reasons as following: the mathematical language ability weakly, thought barriers in reading, reading psychology barriers, mathematical cognitive structure defect, the ability of metacognition defect, the reading method incorrectly and so on.Finally, the paper studies the main teaching strategies that overcome mathematical reading barriers of junior middle school students. Through the analysis, the main teaching strategy as following: stimulating students'interest, strengthening math language training, paying great attention to reading math textbook, instructing students to choose the scientific barriers method, improving students'ability of metacognition, giving more autonomic learning time and space to students.
