STEAM(Science,Technology,Engineering,Arts,Mathematics)education is an interdisciplinary education model that integrates science,technology,engineering,arts and mathematics,Which has been widespread attention to cultivate high-quality comprehensive talents.In recent years,it has gradually become an important trend in China's education reform.In order to meet the social needs of talent training,many researchers have conducted theoretical and practical explorations of STEAM education,and integrated STEAM education practice into the teaching of various disciplines to promote the development of STEAM education.In view of the similarities between biology and STEAM education,there are fewer cases and practical studies combining the two,therefore,in order to further explore the effective integration of STEAM education concepts and biology teaching,and combined the actual situation of biology teaching in junior high school and the relevance of textbook development activities,designed STEAM-based biological expansion-course case and carried out teaching practice.The literature research method,questionnaire,interview,content analysis and action research method have been comprehensively used in the research process,mainly includes the following three research contents:(1)Construction of the junior high school biological expansion-course design process under the STEAM vision.Firstly,the relevant theories of STEAM education and extended courses are described.Based on the questionnaires and interviews formed in the literature,the teachers and students of the school are investigated about the status of the expansion-course teaching and STEAM knowledge.According to the actual situation,the biological expansion-course design process under the STEAM vision is constructed,which is divided into three stages: preliminary preparation,content design and practical feedback.(2)Analysis of seventh grade biology textbooks based on the STEAM concept.After screening and analyzing the content related to STEAM in biological textbooks,establish the STEAM theme of teaching,design the course content and STEAM teaching activities,and complete the specific design of the two course cases.(3)STEAM-based expansion-course case practice.Taking the seventh grade students of Chongqing Shuangfu Yucai Middle School as the research object to carry out teaching practice,through the collection of data on the biological science attitude scale and teaching effect questionnaire,analyze the impact of STEAM education on students' learning interest,teamwork,and questioning awareness.Based on the above research content,the following research conclusions are obtained:(1)The junior high school biological expansion-course is suitable for adopting the STEAM education conceptCombining the previous questionnaire surveys and interviews,it can be known that existing biology expansion teaching has problems such as low relevance of course content and the practice of old practice,and most students expressed their desire to participate in diversified practical activities,which is consistent with STEAM education.Based on the analysis of the seventh grade biology textbooks,more outreach activities containing STEAM elements were screened outand practical teaching was carried out to obtain good teaching results,this shows that the junior high school biological expansion-course and STEAM education are relevant.(2)Expanding teaching based on STEAM is conducive to enhancing students' learning interestStudents show strong interest in learning in STEAM teaching observation.According to the interest dimension test in the "Biological Science Attitude Scale",the scores obtained by the students in the post-test are significantly higher than the pre-test,after t test,they obtained P <0.05,showing a significant difference.The feedback in the questionnaire also shows that students are more interested in expansion courses in the STEAM field of vision.The above can show that expansion-course based on STEAM is conducive to enhancing students' learning interest.(3)The STEAM-based biological expansion-course significantly improves the learning situation of junior high school studentsIn the learning of the biological expansion-course from the perspective of STEAM,students are mainly learning methods that actively acquire knowledge and skills.Questionnaire surveys after the course study show that most students have enjoyed the learning experience in the course,and like the discussion,Production and sharing activities,have significantly improved their knowledge and skills.(4)The biology expansion teaching in junior high school is an important way to cultivate students' abilityAccording to the test of teamwork and questioning consciousness in the "Biological Science Attitude Scale",the scores obtained by the students in the post-test were significantly higher than those in the pre-test,after t-test,they obtained P <0.05,showing significant differences.This shows that junior high school biology expansion teaching is an important way to cultivate students' ability.In summary,through the integration of STEAM education and the expansion-course,it shows that STEAM education has certain feasibility in junior high school biology teaching,and the formed course design process and cases and research results can provide a certain reference for middle school teachers.
