In recent years,China's private education has become an important force in education.Faced with the increasing demand for education from a large number of school-aged people,the scale of private schools and teachers is also expanding.Hainan's private primary schools have not only effectively alleviated the school's increasingly tight degree problem,but have also made up for the number,scale,and form of running public schools,meet the needs of different educational resources for students and parents.After consulting the literature,it is found that there has been abundant literature on teacher professional development theory.However,the practical studies aimed at a certain region,school type,and teacher level are still limited.This is precisely the current shortage of research on teacher professional development.Adhering to the concept of “people-oriented”,and based on the theories including teachers' professional development stage theory,influential factor theory,structure theory,path theory etc.the professional development status of teachers in private primary schools in Hainan province was investigated by using the empirical research methods,such as questionnaire surveys,in-depth interviews and so on.As a result,a comprehensive understanding of the current development status of teachers in Hainan private primary schools was obtained in terms of teacher structure,professional development goal planning,professional development approaches,professional ethics,professional knowledge,professional ability,innovative ability,etc.The research shows that the following problems mainly exist in current professional development of private primary school teachers in Hainan.(1)The institutional guarantee and support for the development of private teachers is still inefficient.During the supervision of private schools,the government' competent authority usually place emphasis on the “approval” instead of “management” issues.Also,there is no effective supervision and evaluation mechanism for private schools.(2)The private schools' management problems such as instrumentalization tendency in teacher management concept,the irrationality in teacher team structure,inadequate training,poor training effect,poor job attractiveness and so on still exist.(3)The problems of personal professional development of private primary school teachers are as below,“short-term” personal career planning goals,lack of teachers' professional quality structure,and inadequate knowledge for education,teaching,and research.Based on the above problems,this thesis gives suggestions on how to strengthen the professional development of teachers in private primary schools in Hainan from three levels: government,schools,and individual teachers.Firstly,on the government side,policies to promote the professional development of private primary school teachers should be formulated and improved to strengthen the professional development of private primary school teachers.Secondly,on the school level,a teacher-oriented long-term development mechanism and integrate school-based training resources should be established to promote teacher professionalism.Thirdly,in terms of individual teachers,one should establish the concept of lifelong learning,formulate a scientific personal career plan,constantly optimize the structure of personal professional quality,and comprehensively improve professional quality.
