With the continuous development of technology and intelligent technology,the fourth industrial revolution is coming,and people's work and life style will change dramatically.In this background,educators must train students with comprehensive quality so that they can adapt to the changes of the future era.Steam education plays a certain role in cultivating students' comprehensive ability,developing students' innovative thinking and critical thinking.However,in the context of exam oriented education,it is difficult for steam education concept to be truly popularized in formal classroom physics teaching.Therefore,the author considers the combination of steam education concept and physical extracurricular activities,and studies the design and practice of physical extracurricular activities based on steam education concept.In the aspect of theory,the author studies STEAM education through the collection and selection of literature.This paper summarizes the development status of STEAM education at home and abroad,combs the development process of STEAM education,and summarizes three relatively mature STEAM education modes at present,namely,project-based learning,design-based learning and 5E learning ring.In the aspect of activity case design and practice,the author first investigated the students' understanding of STEAM education and the development of extracurricular activities in physics.The author interviewed seven physics teachers in the practice school,inquired about their attitudes towards steam education and their views on the combination of STEAM education and physical extracurricular activities,so as to prepare for the design of activity cases.Secondly,it analyzes the object,goal and content of the activity,and constructs the flow pattern of the design of the extracurricular activities of physics based on the idea of STEAM education on the basis of the teaching pattern of project-based learning.The activity design process mode includes seven links: creating situation to lead out activity tasks;students' discussion and understanding of problems;teachers' explanation of principles;determining problems and designing initial scheme;finding information and determining scheme;scheme implementation and results display;and expansion training.In the end,the author designs the extracurricular activities cases with reference to the activity flow mode,and implements the activity design in the practice school.In terms of the implementation effect of the activities,the author investigated the attitude and views of the students participating in the activities towards the integration of STEAM into the physical extracurricular activities,and whether the students have certain interdisciplinary thinking,and analyzed and summarized the survey results.The research results show that students like this kind of extracurricular activities,and think that in this kind of activities,it increases their enthusiasm,concentration,promotes their understanding of knowledge,and hopes that teachers can continue to carry out extracurricular activities in this way.It can be seen that it is feasible to integrate the idea of STEAM education into extracurricular activities of physics,and it is conducive to the development of students' thinking and ability.
