With the rapid development of globalization and knowledge economy, the trend of the return of overseas talents is significant. With their broad international vision, innovative spirit,cutting-edge technology and advanced ideas,as well as international academic networks, overseas talents have an increasingly significant impact on promoting the development of regional economy and culture.Universities are the important carrier to undertake the return of overseas talents, and at the same time, overseas talents have significant influence on promoting the development of scientific and technological in universities.the research on overseas talents who are employed in universities mainly focus on the adaptability of returning and the policy of introducing talents. However, few research have focused on the innovative output of overseas talents in universities. Therefore, this paper focuses on the innovative output of overseas talents in universities, taking the Yangtze River Delta as an example, trying to explore the return of overseas talents and the temporal and spatial distribution of innovative output in universities,to provide theoretical basis and decision-making support for the steady development of society, economy, science and technology, regional coordinated development and balanced development of disciplines. This paper base on data of National research fund projects and patent data, and taking overseas talents and their innovative output of as the research aims, using the method of literature research to construct a theoretical framework, and using ArcGIS software to visualize the return path and spatial distribution of overseas talents inuniversities in the Yangtze River Delta,.In order to show the evolution of the temporal and spatial distribution patter from 2008 to 2018.And construct Poisson regression model to analyze the influencing factors of innovation output. There are obvious differences in the spatial distribution of overseas returning talents employeed in universities in the Yangtze River Delta. The research shows that the return path of overseas talents in the Yangtze River Delta region shows the characteristics of scattered distribution. In 2008,1373 overseas talents returned by universities in the Yangtze River Delta were distributed in 32 regions all over the world. The data mainly from Europe,Asia,North America and Oceania. In 2018,the number increased to 4442 and the number of regions increased to 41.The country with the largest number of returnees has changed from Japan to the United States, and there is a huge gap in the numbers of returnees from other regions. At the meantime, there is also a large gap between districts in the Yangtze River Delta, which is mainly concentrated on the provincial capital cities and areas which with a high level of economic development, and the agglomeration area is generally in the same direction as the "Shanghai-Nanjing-Hangzhou" traffic line, and with the increase of the distance from Shanghai, regional clusters are increasingly dispersed. There is also a large gap between provinces,Shanghai is mainly concentrated on Yangpu District and Xuhui District, while Jiangsu Province is mainly concentrated on south Jiangsu, showing a multi-core distribution pattern.Zhejiang Province mainly presents a polarization situation dominated by a city of Hangzhou or even a university of Zhejiang University. In contrast, the internal difference between Shanghai and Jiangsu is small. In 2008,Zhejiang Province, except Hangzhou, was low-value agglomeration, and the characteristics of two-level differentiation were obvious.by 2018,with the development of northern Zhejiang,Ningbo and Jinhua, the intra-regional gap increased.Different disciplines have different attractions to overseas talents. The Yangtze River Delta region mainly focuses on the return of overseas talents from engineering and social sciences, accounting for nearly 80% of the total, while the number of overseas talents in the other major disciplines is limited. From the perspective ofspatial distribution, the overseas talents engaged in engineering in 2008 are mainly distributed in the circle with Suzhou,Wuxi and Changzhou as the center and 200 kilometers as the radius, and there are sporadic distribution in other areas. The regional area of the gathering area of engineering and learning shows a trend of expansion in 2018,from the circle in 2008 to the northwest-southeast ellipse(extending to Xuzhou and Ningbo). And the gap between the disciplines after ten years of development, regional equilibrium is more obvious. From the circle in 2008 to the northwest-southeast ellipse(extending to Xuzhou and Ningbo). And the gap between the five disciplines after ten years of development, regional equilibrium is more obvious. The innovation output of overseas talents in universities in the Yangtze River Delta has significant spatial agglomeration and dependence, also have obvious discipline differences.Based on the data collected of overseas talents in the Yangtze River Delta, this paper makes a data analysis of their patent innovation and funds output respectively. It is found that the output of patterns in universities in the Yangtze River Delta is concentrated in Shanghai and Nanjing in 2008,it shows a strong regional concentration and spatial dependence.on the contrary, north Jiangsu and the Zhejiang are low-level regions. In 2018,the overall output of patents increased rapidly, and the agglomeration area expanded, especially in Hangzhou. At the same time, the distribution of research fund output is similar to that of patent output.Among them, engineering occupies a dominant position,it is worth noting that the output of patent realized by social science majors is very little, while the number of funding projects has increased rapidly. The gap in the contribution of disciplines to innovation output has been narrowing. The above research on the distribution pattern of overseas talents and innovation output of universities in the Yangtze River Delta shows that there are great differences,Through using Poisson regression to analyze the influence factor,it is concluded that the innovation output is most significantly affected by the construction of career platform, followed by urban grade, distance from Shanghai, agglomeration effect,GDP and the proportion of total import and export to GDP,while other factors are not obviousTo sum up,the number of overseas talents in universities in the Yangtze River Delta is increasing, and the spatial distribution is scattered, the spatial aggregation and dependence of innovation output is significant.Shanghai urban area and provincial capital cities are the gathering areas of innovation output, and the law of distance attenuation is obvious.the contributions of different disciplines to innovation output are different, and the contributions of engineering and science are the most prominent.Through Poisson regression analysis of the influencing factors of innovation output,it can provide a theoretical basis for the government to carry out targeted talent introduction and improve innovation ability, also could promote the balanced development of talent pattern in the Yangtze River Delta, and optimize the distribution of innovation output pattern.
