Since the beginning of the 21 st century,biology has made great breakthroughs,showing a leading position day by day,and has been paid more and more attention among elementary education.Two pieces of teaching implementation suggestions Pay Attention to Conceptual Instruction and Strengthen and Improve Experimentation Instruction are put forward,in the current Biology Curriculum Standard of Compulsory Education.The Biology Curriculum Standard for Senior High School 2017,the newly revised version,claims to develop students' biology core competence,and which should be cultivated all through education.In response to the needs of the development,the education administrative departments from nation to municipality have proclaimed that the assessment of biological experiment will be included in senior high school entrance examination.Under the current teaching background,it is of great significance to study the biological experimentation instruction in middle school.5E Instructional Model is a teaching model originated from BSCS in America.There are some studies on its application in conceptual instruction,and its effectiveness in conceptual instruction has been emphasized by scholars.However,its application and effectiveness in biological experimentation instruction for middle school is inadequate.This study is based on the documentary study of Constructivism theory,Discovery Learning theory and Concept Transformation theory.The current situation of middle school biology experimentation instruction and its shortage of 5E Instructional Model application,are known about,by online questionnaire investigation and semi-structured interview.According to the result,a modified 5E Instructional Model is put forward,adapted for biological experimentation instruction in middle school.Two pairs of parallel classes from ordinary level and preeminent level of ZG Education Group's 7th Graders,in Liwan District,Guangzhou,are chosen to carry out the practical study,with regard to the experimentation instruction in the 2nd and 3rd chapter of biology Grade 7.The experimental classes are instructed through the modified 5E Instructional Model,which emphasize exploration and expression to boost students participation and exploration,while the parallel classes through tradictonal model.After three months,the results of this practical study are estimated,by examination and questionair,as well as class observation.The results are below.First,the modified 5E Instructional Model in biology experimentation instruction of middle school,is practical and effective.Second,in terms of learning motivation,scientific inquiry competence and academic achievement,the experimental classes are better than the parallel,and have significant differences,both for the ordinary students and the preeminent.Third,the modified 5E Instructional Model has advantages in classroom management over traditional experimentation instruction model.Fourth,the effectiveness of the modified 5E Instructional Model is more evident to the ordinary students than to the preeminent.These results indicate that,the modified 5E Instructional Model in biology experimentation instruction of middle school is practical,and its flexible application can effectively motivate students' learning motivation,develop core competence and improve academic achievement,meeting the needs of teaching.
