People in contemporary society live in the trend of information,the quantity of information and the ways to obtain information are increasing rapidly.The media which is an important source of social information has also developed rapidly.The mass media will have a significant impact on the cultivation of the young generation's ideological,moral,spiritual and cultural lives.The media has also become an important factor affecting the values and outlook of the international students in China.The outlook on life plays a very important role,as well as the media literacy education plays a very important role in forming the correct world outlook,values and perspective on life of the international students in China.In order to study and live in China,foreign students also need to have the ability to distinguish,interpret,criticize and use a large number of good and bad information,and they also need to pay attention to the cultivation of media literacy.Therefore,how to educate the students,especially overseas students,rationally understand the mass media and identify the media information,reflect on the impact of the media and its information on the positive and negative aspects of individuals.Also It has become an important topic of media literacy education in contemporary countries to guide foreign students to effectively use media information to serve their own and social development.This article consists of four parts.The first part describes the purpose and significance of media literacy education for international students,and sorts out related literature.And the part is based on the related concepts of media literacy,explains the theoretical basis of media literacy.The second part analyzes the current status of media literacy education in China and other countries.Also discusses the factors affecting the media literacy of foreign students and the necessity of media literacy education for foreign students.The third part mainly takes Harbin Normal University as an example to investigate the current status of foreign students' media utilization and media literacy and also makes statistical analysis.The fourth part puts forward the suggestions of media literacy education for foreign students,and puts forward the feasible strategies of media literacy education.
