The comprehensive implementation of quality education is a requirement of the educated and the long-term development of society. The development and practice of school-based courses focus on the overall and life-long development of students, and play an important role in promoting quality education.Setting up special school-based courses to suit students' individual needs according to local conditions has become an important trend in optimizing the curriculum system.Sichuan-style bonsai is a national intangible cultural heritage, but its popularity and visibility are rather limited. Therefore, carrying out corresponding school-based curriculum practice research in junior high schools in the districts and counties where it originated has distinct advantages and significance in promoting the spread and inheritance of traditional cultures. This Sichuan-style bonsai themed practice research of school-based curriculums is carried out through the method of literature research, surveys, experiments and data analysis,in the junior high school where the author works.First, relevant documents are collected, the feasibility of curriculum implementation is analyzed based on school-based curriculum development theories, curriculum outlines and class academic records are designed after combining local Sichuan-style bonsai resources and junior high school biology teaching experience. Then, the 12-week school-based course-teaching practice of Sichuan-style bonsai is conducted, taking the seventh-grade elective course class as an experimental object. In the course of teaching, the teaching method of theory before practice is adopted, combined with other various teaching methods, such as group cooperation and inquiry teaching, with the class academic records as the carrier. At the same time,we carry out conventional biology courses in an average seventh-grade class with no students choosing the experimental course,as a control class,to conduct comparative research. In order to test the effect of the course, before and after the course is implemented,a questionnaire survey is conducted to investigate students' biological science literacy and biological learning interest, and the independent sample t-test and paired sample t-test are used to analyze data from both the experimental and control classes. At the same time, the results of the mid-term and final exams of biology in the experimental class are collected, and single-sample t-test is used to compare the results with the average grades of the entire grade. The results of data analysis show that the implementation of the school-based curriculum can significantly improve students' knowledge and skills in biological science, inquiry learning, practice, and STS,as well as interest in biological learning.Although the improvement of biology test scores is not obvious, this shows that school-based curriculums of the Sichuan-style bonsai in junior high school is operable and effective.Through the development and implementation of the school-based curriculums of Sichuan-style bonsai, this research has improved students' biological science literacy and learning interest, and is expected to make breakthroughs in improving students' grades in biology learning. At the same time,it has promoted the professional development of teachers, enriched the school curriculum system.Besides,it has also enriched students' knowledge of Sichuan-style bonsai, and explored a new way to inherit the traditional culture of Sichuan-style bonsai. It also provides a reference for the establishment of school-based courses in this school and even other local schools. Its diverse teaching forms also provide new ideas of design for conventional biology classroom teaching.
