At the end of the 20 th century,Guidelines for Basic Education Curriculum Reform provides for the implementation of three-level curriculum management system,i.e.at the national, local and school level. The empowerment of curriculum right to schools provides schools with a new opportunity for their development, and also provides a good way for the implementation of “improving students' biological literacy” mentioned in the Biological Science Curriculum Standard. While enriching students' scientific knowledge,school-based curriculum can also help students realize that science is around us,and help them feel the interest and value of science. It is good for students to understand, find, explore and apply science. At the beginning of the study,I reviewed relevant literatures, conducted deep investigation on actual situation of the school by questionnaires, and worked out implementation plan and evaluation methods for school-based curriculum “Chinese Materia Medica”.During the course of the study,I tested the biological literacy of experimental group students and control group students from four dimensions,i.e.knowledge & skills, inquiry learning ability, practical ability and STS(science, technology and society),in 11 aspects. In addition, some typical cases on improving students' inquiry learning ability, thinking ability and innovation ability are given herein.Through the study,I'm trying to find a balance between national curriculum and school-based curriculum, and to build a platform for students to study biological science under current school conditions, faculty and limited time,to guide students to master scientific methods and cultivate science spirit, and guide students to accumulate experience, and develop the ability of applying experience to solve problems.Through the implementation of the school-based curriculum “Chinese Materia Medica” and the analysis of typical cases,it is concluded that the study of school-based curriculum “Chinese Materia Medica” involves a large number of experimental and research-based learning. The change of learning methods is good for students to improve their concepts of exploration.Students are willing to study unknown problems through methods of exploration and apply the exploratory thinking such as “evidence support hypothesis” to analyze problems.Hot issues around are designed into the “Chinese Materia Medica” school-based curriculum, and students are guided to analyze these issues from the perspective of dialectical materialism, which can better help students to correctly identify the relationship among science, technology and society.During the course of studying the “Chinese Materia Medica” school-based curriculum,a large number of experimental operations and hands-on production are involved, which is good for students to get familiar with and master various experimental operation skills. As students can exchange with each other and influence each other, the learning activities of the school-based curriculum“Chinese Materia Medica” not only improve the biological literacy of the experimental group students, but also promote the biological science learning interest of students of the same age in the non-experimental group. Thus students are more likely to understand the biological information and knowledge around in their spare time. There are also some shortcomings in this study. For example,it is lack of universality because too few samples are selected, and the capacity of school-based curriculum in improving students' generalization and summarization ability and ability of analyzing actual problems is limited, which may involve problems in the design and implementation course of the school-based curriculum.Further study is required for these problems.
