A Comparative Study Of Mathematics Textbooks For Senior High School Between A-version And Hong Kong Pearson Version

In this study,the textbooks of the ordinary high school in China and the Pearson version of Hong Kong were selected.The content of the "exponential function and logarithmic function" was used as the research object.The literature method,comparison method,and interview method were used to separately index the two versions of the textbook.The content of " exponential function and logarithmic function" was analyzed and compared from the curriculum standard requirements,textbook structure,content difficulty,presentation of concepts and properties,and examples and exercises.The following conclusions were obtained:Standard requirements: The basic concept of the curriculum of both editions of teaching materials is committed to training students' mathematical ability,which will lay a good foundation for further learning.The difference is that in the aspect of course goals,People's education A edition of the textbook emphasizes students' knowledge and use.Pearson edition is more focused on the understanding of knowledge.Textbook structure: The similarity is that the two versions of the textbook both contain four basic columns of chapter heads,sections,summaries and review questions.Both of them follow the order of first index and then logarithm in arrangement.The difference is that the type of columns in the Pearson version of the textbook is richer.For example,there are 7sidebars in the Pearson version of the textbook and only 2 sidebars in People's education A edition.In addition,the Pearson version of the textbook must be more detailed in terms ofknowledge division,and the coverage of knowledge points is wider.Content Difficulty: The Pearson version of the textbook is larger in course time and course breadth than the People's education A version,but in the depth of the course,it is lower than the A version.In a word,the difficulty of "exponential function and logarithmic function" in People's education textbook is slightly higher than that in Pearson version.The form of presentation for concepts and properties : The same thing is that in the introduction of the image and property of exponential function and logarithmic function,both editions of the textbook pay attention to the combination of mathematical knowledge and information technology.In terms of the contents of function properties,they both contain the conclusions of fixed point,monotonicity,domain of definition and range.The difference is that in the way of introducing the concept of function,the textbook of People's education A version takes the real life as an example to draw out the function concept,while the edition of Pearson gives the definition directly.In terms of function property content,Pearson version summarizes some properties more than People's education A version.Comparison of example questions: In terms of the example problem solving process,the same is that both versions of the textbook give a model of the problem solving process.The difference is that Pearson version presents the formula or concept used in the problem solving process in the form of blue font beside the corresponding steps to help students understand.In terms of the difficulty of the example problems,according to the comprehensive difficulty model of mathematical problems,it is concluded that the "reasoning" factor and "mathematical cognition" factor of People's education A version is significantly higher than that of Pearson version;and there is almost no difference between the two textbooks in terms of "knowledge synthesis","background" and "operation" factors.On the whole,the difficulty of the example questions taught by the A version is slightly greater than that of the Pearson version.Exercises comparison: The same is that there are two types of exercises in the two editions of the textbook: classroom exercises and after-school exercises.The difference is that the number of exercises in Pearson edition is far greater than that in A edition,and the types of exercises are also richer.According to the comparison results,it is pointed out that several specific aspects in People's education A version of textbook can be used for reference and several aspects shouldbe paid attention to in teaching.In terms of teaching materials:1.Enrich the layout design;2.Strengthen the penetration of mathematical culture;3.Expand the column settings;4.Add the types of exercises.In terms of teaching :1.Strengthen students' ability to draw and recognize shapes;2.Use information technology to assist teaching;3.Strengthen the understanding of function concepts;4.Consolidate knowledge by adopting a "spiral ascent" method;5.Pay attention to training students' ability to solve practical problems.
