STEAM education is a new type of multidisciplinary education form for the cultivation of innovative talents.It integrates Science,Technology,Engineering,Arts,Mathematics and other courses.It can not only stimulate students' interest in learning,but also cultivate students' comprehensive ability to solve problems.This study focuses on STEAM core competencies and instructional design based on STEAM core competencies,and provides guidance for STEAM education practice.This study includes the following main contents:First,it summarizes the development of STEAM education at home and abroad,and the researches and implementations of STEAM education as well,and points out the problems of current STEAM education.The core problems are the lacks of STEAM core competencies and its instructional design.Second,from the goal of cultivating innovative talents,the core competencies of Chinese students' development and the core competencies of STEAM in the 2017 edition of the senior high school curriculum standards are summarized and deduced to build a STEAM core competencies that meets Chinese characteristics,which includes Humanities,Science Thinking Methods,Problem Solving and Innovation,and Responsibility.And analyzed the connotation of core competencies,and the corresponding relationship with core competencies of Chinese students' development and core competencies of various disciplines.After that,based on STEAM core competencies and 5E teaching mode,a STEAM instructional design mode is proposed.For primary STEAM teaching activities,combined with Scratch software,the instructional design of the problem-solving project "Following Problems" and the inquiry project "Sound Control Hot Air Balloon" provides a reference for STEAM teaching based on STEAM core competencies.
