Parental emotional neglect refers to that parents do not give children the love,do not respond to children's emotions, and ignore the spiritual and emotional communication with their children. In recent years, many studies have shown that there is a high incidence of emotional neglect in Chinese children. In addition, under the influence of the one-child policy for a long period of time, the phenomenon of the only child in cities has been relatively common. In recent years, with the implementation of the Two-child policy, more and more single-child families in China choose to have a second child. With the arrival of the second child, parents pay more attention to the second child, which makes them unable to pay attention to the psychological changes of first-born children in time. The lack of closeness and emotional communication with first-born children leads to certain emotional neglect of first-born children.Meanwhile, studies have shown that compared with the only child, the degree and rate of emotional neglect of non-only children is higher. And studies have shown that parents' emotions affect children's development of self-regulation.Therefore,this study explores the current situation of first-born children in two-child families who are subject to parental emotional neglect and the influence of parental emotional neglect on their self-regulation behavior. It will provide some scientific basis for the family education of two-child families and some suggestions for the mental health educators in primary schools. In this study, questionnaire survey and story situation method were used to investigate the present situation of first-born children in two-child families who are subject to parental emotional neglect and the influence of parental emotional neglect on their self-regulation behavior. In the first study,a questionnaire survey was conducted on 476 second-child children(290 first-child children in the two-child family and 186 second-child children in the two-child family)in the senior grade of primary school in accordance with the 20 questions related to emotional neglect in the neglect evaluation scale for primary school students aged9-11(4-6 grade)in China,to explore the current situation of first-child children in the two-child family being neglected by their parents compared with the second-child children in the two-child family. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the neglectrate between the first-born children in the two-child family and the second-child children in the two-child family. However, compared with the second child in the two-child family, the first child in the two-child family had a higher degree of emotional neglect from the parents.According to the results of study 1,108 first-born children selected from study 1 were divided into two groups: emotional neglect group and non-emotional neglect group.Compared with first-born children with non-emotional neglect, the self-regulation behavior characteristics of first-born children with emotional neglect were discussed by using story situation method. The specific experimental design is 2 emotional neglect(emotional neglect group,non-emotional neglect group)×2 interaction objects(first-child and second-child,first-child and parents)and 2 emotional neglect(emotional neglect group,non-emotional neglect group)×2 situation types(contradiction,non-contradiction),in which emotional neglect is the inter-subject variable, interaction object and situation type is the inter-subject variable, and the dependent variable is the self-regulatory response mode(impulsive behavior,self-suppression,self-assertion,and help-seeking relatives).By comparing with non-emotional neglected first-born children, this paper explores the characteristics of self-regulation behavior responses of emotional neglected first-born children. The results show that compared with non-emotional neglected first-born children, emotional neglected first-born children show more impulsive behaviors and self-suppression responses in the overall response. And because of different communication situations, they show some differences : In contradictory situations,first-born children with emotional neglect show more impulsive behaviors responses than first-born children with non-emotional neglect; In non-contradictory situations,first-born children with emotional neglect show more impulsive behaviors and self-suppression behaviors responses than first-born children with non-emotional neglect;First-born children with non-emotional neglect showed more self-assertion responses than first-born children with emotional neglect. As there was no significant difference in the interaction objects, both in the first-child and second-child situations and in the first-child's interaction with parents, the first-child children with emotional neglect all showed more impulsive behaviors and self-suppression reaction modes than the first-child children with non-emotional neglect. To sum up,it can be concluded:(1)Compared with the second child in the two-child family, the first-child in the two-child family has a higher degree of emotional neglect from parents.(2)Parental emotional neglect influence the smooth development of the first-born children's self-regulation behavior.
