With the development of society and the reform of the college entrance examination,a series of reforms have been carried out in mathematics education of high school in China.The Mathematics Curriculum Standards for General High School(2017 Edition)has proposed six core mathematical competencies for high school students,which are mathematical abstraction,logic reasoning,mathematical modeling,mathematical operations,intuitive imagination and data analysis.The proposed mathematical competencies encourage students to learn and apply mathematics from their own life experience.Among these mathematical competencies,mathematical modeling teaching is an effective way to cultivate high school students' ability of innovation and application of mathematics.Mathematical modeling teaching helps students to master basic mathematics knowledge and improve logical thinking ability through their own perception to modeling and their practical operation,meanwhile,the students can also experience the fun of mathematics.However,the current situation of high school mathematical modeling teaching is worrying.Due to insufficient theoretical guidance and practical training of mathematical modeling for students,the students' mathematical modeling capabilities are not good as expected.The goal of this research is to investigate and analyze the current situation of high school mathematical modeling teaching,and then to propose certain teaching reform strategies based on the core competencies.In this research,teachers and students from three high schools in Huanggang,Hubei Province were investigated.Questionnaire surveys and tests were conducted based on three dimensions,which are teachers and students' cognition of mathematical modeling,and the students' mathematical modeling capabilities.Furthermore,the obtained survey data are analyzed by using SPSS software and other data analysis tools.From the research,we make the conclusions as follows.We find three main problems in the current situation of mathematical modeling teaching Huanggang High School.The first one is the lack of teachers' professional competence and theoretical guidance of mathematical modeling,the second one is the lack of teachers' teaching experience of mathematical modeling,last but not least,the third problem is that the students' cognition and application of mathematical modeling are not enough.Therefore,this thesis proposed the corresponding mathematical modeling teaching strategies.The first one is to improve the teachers' cognition of mathematical modeling teaching,the second one is to improve the teachers' mathematical modeling teaching ability,the last one is to enrich the students' mathematical modeling understandings in multiple ways.We made some innovations in this research.One is to conduct an empirical investigation from two perspectives of teachers and students,we also apply factor analysis and principal component analysis in SPSS,which provides a recommend method for the research of some actual problems;the other one is that,based on the current situation of mathematical modeling teaching of high school,we proposed strategies to improve the quality and level of the mathematical modeling other one is that.based on the current situation of mathematical modeling teaching of high school,we proposed strategies to improve the quality and level of the mathematical modeling teaching which plays an important role in promoting the current education teaching reform of high school.
