A Comparative Study On The Establishment Of Top Research Universities And Departments In China And Britain

For a long time,the scale of universities in our country has been continuously expanding,the setting up of colleges and departments in colleges and universities has shown certain blindness and arbitrariness,and the quality of higher education has been declining.However,from the perspective of management,the department organization is the secondary management unit of the university and the core layer of the university management.The scientificity and rationality of the setting of colleges and departments directly affect the effective operation of the university organization.From the perspective of talent training and scientific research,the college and department organization is the organization that the university directly carries out education,teaching and scientific research,and the reform of the college and department organization is related to the quality of college talent training and the output of scientific achievements.Facing the new situation of "double first-class construction" and "concentric development" of universities,China's research universities are playing an extremely important role.As an important organizational structure within the university,the rationality of its setting is worthy of our double scrutiny.This study USES the literature research method to explain and define the concepts of first-class research universities,departments and departments setting,so as to determine the research context and perspective.By using management span theory,integrated management theory,scale economy theory,scope economy theory,knowledge innovation group theory and knowledge transformation theory,this paper discusses the theoretical basis of the establishment of colleges and departments from three aspects of management,economics and scientific knowledge development.This paper selects 10 first-class research universities in China and 10 first-class research universities in Britain as research objects,and collects the data of setting of departments needed by the research institute from the official websites of each university.By using the statistical analysis method,it conducts a multi-angle and dimensional statistical analysis on the materials received,and summarizes the current characteristics of setting of departments of the first-class research universities in the two countries.In addition,by using the paradigm of comparative research and on thebasis of the theory of faculty setting,this paper makes a comparative analysis of the overall situation of the departments setting of the first-class research universities in China and Britain.It is found that there are the following problems in the establishment of the first-class research universities in China: too many departments;The department has a narrow caliber;The subject coverage of the department is small;There are few interdisciplinary schools and departments and the span of subjects is small;There are many repetitive phenomena in the setting of colleges and departments.It is concluded that the existence of these problems will directly affect the management range of the university and reduce the management efficiency of the university.Affecting the quality of university talent training;Impeding the development of scientific knowledge in universities;It is easy to cause the waste of university education resources.Based on the theoretical basis of the setting up of university departments,four Suggestions are put forward to improve the setting up of university departments in China's first-class research universities: Reasonable control of the number of departments,departments to improve the level of discipline;Trial school system;Attach importance to the development of characteristic departments;With the subject directory as the reference,standardize the name of the department to avoid repeated setting.
