Among modern universities, performance appraisal of administra-tion departments is very important for performance management of the universities. Taking University N as an instance and based on the objective and importance of university administration departments, this paper started with theory of public service administration, e.g. perform-ance management; takes mature theories of BSC, key index, and MBO, etc., and then brought out the author’s research objective and direction. Through analysis of presentation of the University N administration departments, the paper showed common problems in present performance appraisal of universities; performed relative analysis and researches causes of the above problems by using various related theories.To make this paper more directly perceived, Academic Affairs Office of University N was selected as the analysis object so as to combine both theory and practice; based on actual condition, the paper distributed different weight to specific departments and designed more logical and precise index system for performance check and appraisal. It is hoped that this paper can provide some assistance to researches on related fields of university administration departments so as to improve the research achievements on performance check and appraisal of university administration departments.
