Purpose:To explore the feasibility of muscle oxygen saturation?SmO2?,as a local index,to evaluate training intensity in rowers,by the incremental load test,the different special training methods and the 2000m time trial of rowing.Methods:Twenty-six male rowers in Shanghai?19.15±2.84 yrs,189.19±6.18 cm,80.19±9.59 kg and train for 4.42±2.13yrs?volunteered to participate in the study.Participants completed three tests successively:incremental load test of rowing?form 180W,2min per step,increase 30W step by step,no interval until exhaustion?,SmO2-BB,SmO2-VL,oxygen uptake?V?O2?,heart rate?HR?and Power measured at the same time during resting and testing;12000m training,6000m×2 training,30min training and 500m×10 training were selected as the different training methods of rowing,SmO2-VL,HR,blood lactate?Bla?measured during resting,SmO2-VL,HR,Power measured at the same time during testing,Bla,ratings of perceived exertion?RPE?measured immediately after training;during the 2000m rowing time trial,SmO2-VL,HR,Bla measured during resting,SmO2-VL,HR,Power measured at the same time during testing,RPE immediately measured after training and Bla measured at 3 minutes after training.Results:?1?SmO2,as a local index,decreased gradually as the exercise intensity increased gradually during the incremental load test,while V?O2 and HR,as the systemic indexes,increased gradually at the same time.There were highly significant negative correlations between SmO2-BB,SmO2-VL and V?O2,HR respectively??0.822?r??0.797,p<0.01?.There was significant difference between steps in each index?p<0.05?.The correlations between SmO2-BB and the systemice exercise intensity indexes were lower than SmO2-VL,and the characterstics between the two showed a difference as the exercise intensity increased gradually?p<0.05?.?2?Power basically remained stable during the different special training methods,and HR increased gradually,while SmO2-VL remained stable after falling to a certain level.There were moderately or highly significant negative correlations between SmO2-VL and HR,Power respectively??0.862?r??0.652,p<0.01?.The indexes were not consistent in evaluating training intensity.?3?Power increased first,then decreased,and then increased again in the 2000m rowing time trial,and HR increased gradually,while SmO2-VL decreased first,then remained stable,and then decreased again.There was highly significant negative correlation between SmO2-VL and HR?r=?0.859,p<0.01?;and also highly significant negative correlation between SmO2-VL and Power?r=?0.841,p<0.01?.The indexes were not consistent in evaluating erercise intensity.Conclusions:?1?The high correlations between SmO2-BB,SmO2-VL and systemic exercise intensity indexes during the incremental load test reflect its high sensitivity to exercise intensity.The correlations between SmO2-VL and the exercise intensity indexes are higher than SmO2-BB.It is considered that SmO2-BB,SmO2-VL all can be used as an evaluation index of local exercise intensity in rowers during incremental load test,and SmO2-VL is better than SmO2-BB.?2?There are moderate or high correlations between SmO2-VL and the systemic exercise intensity index;the difference of the two reflects the difference between local exercise intensity and systemic exercise intensity in rowers during rowing training.It is considered that SmO2-VL can be used as an evaluation index of local training intensity in rowers during rowing training.?3?There is a high correlation between SmO2-VL and the systemic exercise intensity index during the 2000m rowing time trial;the difference of the two reflects the difference between local exercise intensity and systemic exercise intensity in rowers during rowing time trial.It is considered that SmO2-VL can be used as an evaluation index of local exercise intensity in rowers during rowing time trial.?4?In view of the connection and difference betweenSmO2-BB,SmO2-VL and the systemic exercise intensity indexes,it is considered that SmO2-BB,SmO2-VL all can be used as a local evaluation index to evaluate the local exercise intensity during test,training and time trial in rowing.
