The new curriculum reform advocates the transformation of teachers' teaching concepts and methods,which no longer simply requires teachers to focus on teaching,but guide students to explore and learn actively.Therefore,it is more and more important to cultivate students' inquiry ability in mathematics teaching of ordinary high schools.Inquiry teaching is student-centered teaching.Students are encouraged to participate in classroom inquiry activities actively and students' autonomous learning ability and mathematical inquiry ability are cultivated as well.The research contents of this paper are as follows.First,this paper illustrates the current situation of mathematical inquiry ability of grade-two students from senior high schools and its influencing factors.Second,the paper introduces the current situation of inquiry teaching in the school and the problems raised in the process of the mathematics teachers' understanding and development of inquiry teaching.Third,the paper puts forward the strategy of cultivating students' ability of mathematical inquiry ability in teaching.This paper first summarizes the relevant theories of inquiry teaching and discusses the structure of mathematical inquiry ability by consulting relevant literature at home and abroad.Mathematical inquiry ability is a complex comprehensive ability,which includes the ability to observe and find problems,the ability to propose meaningful mathematical problems,the ability to analyze and summarize problems,the ability to think creatively and the ability to choose and evaluate solutions.Secondly,teachers' questionnaires were used to analyse how much teachers master about the inquiry theory,how well the inquiry teaching works and what factors affect the implementation of inquiry teaching.The present situation and influencing factors of students' mathematical inquiry ability were investigated by using student questionnaires.The results show that most teachers believe that inquiry teaching is beneficial to cultivate students' mathematical inquiry ability,and they have a good command of this theory,but the concrete implementation of the classroom is not ideal,and the students' mathematical inquiry ability of the surveyed schools is weak.Besides,in combination with related literature material and questionnaire survey,the study,taking "series" as the carrier of the teaching content,connects the theory of inquiry teaching and classroom practice as well as analysis of the interviews with students about teaching effect of this section.As a result,the following conclusions are drawn.First,the implementation of inquiry teaching can change learning attitude of student's at or above the secondary level and increase their learning enthusiasm.Second,students can gradually be changed from passive learning to active learning by carrying out inquiry teaching.Third,the implementation of inquiry teaching can gradually improve students'awareness of mathematical inquiry.Finally,this paper,through its own teaching practice,studies how to cultivate students' ability of mathematical inquiry in daily teaching,and proposes strategies to cultivate students' ability of mathematical inquiry in ordinary high school mathematics teaching so as to improve students' scientific literacy and provide some references and suggestions for teachers' teaching and students' learning.
