Geographic information systems(GIS)brings great opportunities and challenges to current Geographic education.Since the early 1990 s,GIS have slowly spread to secondary schools around the world,and more and more countries have incorporated GIS into their secondary geography curriculum.Through reading and combing the domestic and foreign articles about the application of GIS in middle school geography teaching,it is believed that GIS is a tool that can process geographic spatial data into geographic information and promote the acquisition of students' knowledge and the development of intelligence.The education of GIS in middle school includes the learn about GIS and the learn with GIS.At the same time,review some middle school education information system successful experience in developed countries and implementation process of the obstacle,it is concluded that for the middle school geography teachers to meet the requirements of the middle school geography teaching of GIS software,data,and the teaching material,as well as the necessary GIS of teachers training is the application of GIS in the middle school geography teaching.At present,more and more attention has been paid to the application of GIS in middle schools.However,for the majority of middle school teachers in our country,the use of GIS in the middle school geography teaching is facing great challenges.At present,although there are clear requirements for the application of GIS in geography teaching in the curriculum standards,teachers are hard to find the GIS software suitable for middle school geography teaching,and the application status of GIS in middle school geography teaching in China is not optimistic.This paper,for the first time,introduces QGIS,a free,user-friendly and powerful desktop GIS software,into the geography teaching of middle schools in China,and designs and implements a geography teaching case based on QGIS software,in order to provide a reference for middle school geography teachers to use GIS in geography teaching.According to the ordinary high school geography curriculum standards(2017edition)over the use of GIS requirements,the QGIS application in middle school geography teaching is divided into three kinds of teaching scenario,it is using QGIS software into daily of geography teaching activities,carry out based on the investigation,the investigation of the geographical practice activities and implementation of GISexperiment.At the same time,geography curriculum design based on QGIS should be based on the requirements of curriculum standards and students' learning conditions.It is necessary to design a corresponding operation manual for students according to the needs of the course.The description of operation steps in the operation manual should be as detailed as possible.By adding relevant knowledge of GIS and cartography in the form of teaching content or tips,it is beneficial for students to combine theory and practice.The 40-minute or 45-minute classroom teaching time in Chinese middle schools is one of the main factors restricting the development of geography teaching activities based on QGIS in middle schools.Teaching with QGIS software can cultivate students' interest in geography learning,deepen students' understanding of regions,cultivate students' practical ability,mobilize students' enthusiasm and initiative in learning,improve the traditional teacher-centered teaching environment,increase the interaction between teachers and students,and improve the relationship between teachers and students.
