Regional geography is an important part of high school geography teaching.Improving the quality of high school regional geography teaching is of great significance to high school geography learning.At present,applying geographic information technology to regional geography teaching in high schools is an effective way to improve the quality of regional geography teaching.This study collates the relevant studies that geographic information system assisted high school geography teaching at home and abroad.It also summarizes the principles and basis as well as the general methods and processes of the case design of geographic information system application in high school geography teaching.According to this information,a high school regional geography teaching case was designed and implemented.Using the quasi-experimental method and the questionnaire survey as main methods,based on the general high school geography curriculum standards and the students' learning conditions,the tests and questionnaires were designed before and after the implementation of the case in order to test the effect of geographic information system applied to high school regional geography teaching.Finally,the study points out the common problems in applying geographic information system to geography teaching in high schools and puts forward corresponding suggestions.The research found that the functions of geographic information system that are suitable for high school regional geography teaching include: spatial query and location,data transformation,spatial visualization and spatial analysis etc.Geographic information system assists regional geography teaching in high schools can effectively cultivate students' ability in geographic information acquisition,geographic information technology application and geographic critical thinking.This is conducive to the integration of geographic knowledge into life and the improvement of students' ability to practice geography.But at the same time,influenced by the teachers' weak level of geographic information technology operation and fewer teaching hours,GIS-assistedteaching does not give full play to its maximum benefits,and its effect on training students' spatial thinking and spatial dimension positioning ability is not obvious.
