Study On The Selection System Of The National University Presidents During The Republic Of China Period

Mr.Tao Xingzhi,a famous educator in China,said,“It's hard to be a headmaster!Speaking less,he has a close relationship with millions of people's career prospects.Speaking more,he has a bearing on the rise and fall of the country and academics.”The importance of presidents is self-evident.In retrospect of history,a number of internationally renowned presidents emerged during the Republic of China.They played a vital role in the development of China's new universities and were widely recognized and respected by the society.Their educational philosophy and school running principles are still regarded as the standard by the educators.How this group was chosen as the principal is worthy of further study.Therefore,this study takes the selection system of the president of the National University of the Republic of China as the research object.This paper studies the selection system of the president of the National University during the Republic of China.This study takes 147 national university presidents from the Republic of China as a sample,and uses the materials of education yearbooks,newspapers,school history and other materials to explore the main body,standards,procedures,and the role of principals of the selection system of presidents through literature research and historical methods.Firstly,the selection system of presidents is analyzed in detail to lay a theoretical foundation for this study;Secondly,it combs the presidential selection system of national universities in the period of the Republic of China from the two aspects of system text and actual operation;Finally,it summarizes the experience of the presidential selection system of the National University during the Republic of China,and offers enlightenment and reference for optimizing the current president selection system.
