With the convening of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum and the integration of Cape Verde into the local national education system in 2018,the needs of Cape Verdean Chinese learners are increasing, and more and more schools are hoping to cooperate with the Confucius Institute and have more Chinese teachers to teach Chinese in Cape Verde.I was selected by Hanban in May,2018.I went to Assomada,a teaching location of the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Verde in September, and I taught in three middle schools.During this ten-month period,I recorded some general problems in the Chinese class of Cape Verdean middle school through class observation and teaching journals, such as arriving late and leaving early, eating, walking around, disturbing each other, and constantly interrupting teacher, totally ignoring the teacher's existence, they were very noisy. Some classes were very quiet, but doing things are not related to the class, such as writing homework of other subjects, drawing pictures, taking selfies with a mobile phone, etc. Some are unique in Cape Verdean middle school, and have their own particularities, such as pretending to be ill in class in order to avoid questions from teachers, making up in class, touching the teacher's hair and braiding hair for teacher, deliberately interrupting teachers and making unreasonable requests to them. This article selects the most typical cases for research. This article specifically analyzes three typical class management cases that students who are too active, challenge the authority of teachers, and students who like pretending to be sick. Each case is elaborated from background introduction, case description, and case analysis.Based on the problems in the above cases,I proposes that Chinese teachers should establish teacher authority, make reasonable use of body language and non-verbal prompts, implement reward and punishment mechanisms, clarify classroom instructions, and improve their intercultural class communication skills.I hope to provide valuable advice to future Chinese teachers, while providing some reference for the study of Chinese class management in Cape Verdean middle school.
