Research On Social Support Of Social Work Involved In Famlies Of Children With Mental Disorders

At present,the academic circles are paying more and more attention to the families of children with mental retardation,but most of the existing research focuses on the pre-intervention and rehabilitation of children with mental retardation,there are relatively few studies on the social support of families with mentally retarded children.This research is based on the practice observation of M Mental Retardation Service Center in Lanzhou,taking the social support theory as the basis and the social support of mental retardation children's families as the cut-in point,using the qualitative research method,data were collected by semi-structured interviews with five families of children with mental retardation selected from the M Mental Retardation Service Center.On this basis,the author tries to improve the current situation of social support for families of children with mental retardation through social work,the role,limitation and improvement of social work in the intervention of family social support for mentally retarded children were explored.The study found that families of mentally retarded children received strong emotional support from relatives and friends,while formal support was relatively strong from the government and social organizations,while rehabilitation institutions and community support were relatively weak.The causes of the current situation of family social support for mentally retarded children include: lack of detailed policies,lack of professionals,lack of experience in promoting inclusive education in ordinary schools,and limited teaching level of special education;Existing community activities are few and inapplicable,barrier-free facilities are scarce,and rehabilitation medical institutions are seldom informed and reminded.In view of the above situation,this research takes the weak of mental retardation children family community support as the entry point to the social work practice intervention.The government has mainly carried out training on mental retardationfor community workers,and the "three-society linkage" has been set up to provide regular community support for families of children with mental retardation.It has also improved the mental retardation knowledge of staff members specialized in disability and civil affairs,a core community support network for families of mentally handicapped children,consisting of police stations,banks and shops,has been set up,and a management platform for community volunteers to assist disabled children has been established.Research shows that social work can help connect resources and enhance social support in the intervention of family social support difficulties of mentally retarded children.But the role of social workers is limited,and more services require the efforts of national policy and others in the field.Finally,this study also puts forward some suggestions from both policy and service aspects.
