Mauritius is one of the active participating countries in Africa's "Belt and Road" initiative.In recent years,the number of people who have chosen to study Chinese has been on the rise.From the perspective of Hanban volunteer teachers who teach at the secondary school affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi Institute,this study adopted in-depth interviews,class observations and other research methods to collect real data and teaching cases in the Chinese teaching class.Five students with different mother tongue backgrounds and different cultural beliefs were analyzed.The purpose of this study is to investigate the Chinese learning intentions and the influencing factors,and to analyze their learning characteristics at Chinese class,and to propose the corresponding teaching strategies based on their learning characteristics.It is found through the study that there are four characteristics of the Chinese learning of the secondary school students affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi Institute.Firstly,Sino-Mauritian students show a reverse learning order and non-integrity characteristics in the Chinese learning process from students of other races.Secondly,students have a significant fear of Chinese character learning.Thirdly,students pay more attention to dynamic teaching resources than other teaching forms.Fourthly,students emphasize self-expression.According to the research results,this study puts forward four teaching strategies for the Chinese class teaching in the secondary school affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi Institute.Firstly,Chinese teaching for Sino-Mauritian students should follow the heritage language teaching method.Secondly,to implement the "Teaching spoken language and characters separately" teaching model.Thirdly,to make good use of online teaching resources to improve the appeal of the Chinese class.Fourthly,implement refined teaching and improve the teaching effect of the Chinese class based on the theory of social constructivism.This study also puts forward the corresponding suggestions for the local Chinese cultural activities held in Mauritius.This study in order to play a guiding role in the future Chinese teaching in Mauritius secondary schools,and then promote the spread of Chinese in Mauritius.
