Rural Shrinking In China's Mass Urbanization

With the deepening of decentralization and marketization,China is now experiencing a rapid process of urbanization.As a consequence,dramatic transformation has taken place in economic,social,political and cultural aspects in urban area.In the meantime,great changes have also taken place in China's countryside during the rapid process of mass urbanization.As the provider of labor to urban area,most rural area has suffered dramatic population loss over a prolonged period and is therefore significantly shrinking.This phenomenon is particularly obvious in Mid-China.This study explores rural shrinking of Shangrao in Mid-China through case study with the help of China Academy of Urban Planning and Design,Shanghai Branch in field work and data colleting.In this study,the characteristic of migration and rural transition will be fully explored based on the analysis of data.There are three conclusions in this study.First,the phenomenon of out-flow migration in rural area of Shangrao is significant.Second,out-flow population has the characteristic of young in age structure,far in distance,non-agricultural in job structure,and the back-flow tendency has also emerged.Third,these characteristics lead to the transition of rural area in social physical and economic aspects.This paper is organized as follows:Chapter 1:forward.This chapter includes the research background,aim and question,value,framework,as well study method and data collection.Chapter 2:study review.This chapter analyze the theoretical study of migration,and its impact on rural area and urban area.Chapter 3-5:case study.This chapter explores rural shrinking of Shangrao in Mid-China through case study.In this chapter,the characteristic of migration and rural transition will be fully explored based on the analysis of data.Chapter 6:conclusion.There are three conclusions in this study.First,the phenomenon of out-flow migration in rural area of Shangrao is significant.Second,out-flow population has the characteristic of young in age structure,far in distance,non-agricultural in job structure,and the back-flow tendency has also emerged.Third,these characteristics lead to the transition of rural area in social physical and economic aspects.
