China is regarded as the biggest manufacturing country at the present stage,yet it is far from a world's manufacturing power.From the view of industrial structure transformation,the stage of China's manufacturing industry remains the middle part of the “smiling curve”,namely the stage of production-based manufacturing.The industry has been neglecting innovative design and service-based link that can add huge values for either upstream or downstream enterprises,which leads to the fact that the innovation capability and accumulation for manufacturing enterprises in China is relatively low.To change the status quo,the industry is supposed to be consistent with the latest trend of the global manufacturing industry,attaching great importance to the structural transformation from production-based to service-based industry.Hence,how to achieve the objective to transform and how the dynamic innovation capability(DIC)of manufacturing enterprises can evolve during the transformation process are the major practical issues that the Chinese manufacturing enterprises confront to accomplish the production-to-service transformation.With ample reference to the prior literature,this paper firstly defines and illustrates the innovation chain,service chain and DIC of manufacturing enterprises,and analyses the rationales of the integration of innovation chain and service chain,arguing that the integration involves five stages,namely Primary Double Low,High-Low,Double High,Low-High and Advanced Double Low.Besides,it also divides the DIC of manufacturing enterprises into four dimensions,which includes integration capability,organisation flexibility,perception capability and innovation capability.Secondly,this dissertation follows the Grounded Theory to establish a conceptual model for the influence of the integration between innovation and service chain on the DIC of manufacturing enterprises,and discusses the interaction among the integration,the dynamic innovation capability and the boundary of manufacturing enterprises.From the view of the innovation and service integration,a three dimensional model for the DIC evolution of manufacturing enterprises is then established in order to illustrate its evolutionary pathway.Moreover,this dissertation applies Case Study Method;suggestions on the enhancement of DIC in the manufacturing industry are offered after a relatively thorough,from both theoretical and empirical aspects,investigation into Haier Group case study. |
