Since the reform and opening up,with the continuous development of China's industrial economy and the rapid expansion of urban scale, the urban agglomeration is coming into being.Urban agglomeration is considered by some experts to be the basic unit of global economic competition in twenty-first Century. In 2017,the nineteen major reports of the party clearly pointed out that China should build a spatial pattern of coordinated development of large and medium-sized cities and small towns with the urban agglomeration as the main body.At present,China has formed an official, unofficial, large and small more than 20 urban agglomeration, which is an important support for the development of China's regional economy and the main form of China's urbanization construction.Total factor productivity(TFP)is an important index to measure the quality of social and economic development in a region. To a certain extent, the total factor productivity of the urban agglomeration must be improved in order to achieve the quality of urban agglomeration economic development. As the "main body form" of the new urbanization planning and construction in China, the development level and quality of the urban agglomeration are directly related to the level of regional economic development and the realization of the new urbanization development strategy. The study of the total factor productivity of urban agglomeration in China and its influencing factors, such as the internal industrial division of labor and the internal transportation network, can help us understand the present situation of the overall development quality of the urban agglomeration in our country and the way to improve the total factor productivity from the perspective of urban agglomeration development, which has important theoretical value and realistic meaning. On the basis of reviewing the relevant literature, first of all, this paper uses the DEA-Malmquist method to calculate the total factor productivity and its decomposition changes in China's urban agglomeration, and analyzes the results according to the calculated results,in order to help us to understand the current situation of the economic development quality of the Chinese Urban Agglomeration in a comprehensive and systematic way.Secondly, this paper analyzes the internal mechanism of some factors that affect the total factor productivity of urban agglomeration and lays a solid foundation for the relevant empirical research.Because the factors affecting the total factor productivity of urban agglomerations are very complicated,it is impossible to analyze them one by one. Therefore,on the basis of the comprehensive grasp of the existing theory, from the economic characteristics of the urban agglomeration, this paper combs and selects the theoretical analysis of the theoretical level of the real economic factors of the urban agglomeration, such as the industrial division of labor, the innovation structure, the transportation network and other important urban agglomeration. Finally, this paper uses the panel data of 20 cities and 15 years in China to test the factors that affect the total factor productivity changes of urban agglomeration, and explains the rationality of the regression results. The conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)the overall factor productivity of urban agglomeration in China is low during the study period, the main reason is the lack of efficiency, which reflects that the spatial resource allocation of urban agglomeration in our country may be unreasonable and is still in the stage of immature;(2)the internal industrial division and cooperation, innovation structure, traffic network and single center agglomeration structure, which are based on the perspective of urban agglomeration development, will promote the improvement of the total factor productivity of the urban agglomeration. Finally, based on the main conclusions of the study, the paper tries to propose the following policy recommendations to improve TFP in urban agglomerations:(1)optimize the accessibility of urban agglomeration;(2)speed up the adjustment and rational distribution of industrial structure within the urban agglomeration;(3)play the leading role of the core city.
