With the rapid development of urbanization in small and medium-sized cities, the types of transportation modes are increasing.Affected by the same built environment, residents in the same traffic area will inevitably have consistency in the choice of travel mode, while residents in different traffic areas will have differences, which is spatial heterogeneity. In many modes of transportation, the increase of motorized travel has an important impact on the traffic development of small and medium-sized cities, which brings a series of traffic problems. For example, traffic congestion, environmental pollution, personal safety of travelers are threatened, etc.Seriously affect the healthy development of small and medium-sized cities.Commuting travel plays an important role in the daily travel of residents, and it is also an important part of urban traffic operation. The key to solve the traffic problems in small and medium-sized cities is to optimize the commuting conditions and choose a reasonable and green commuting mode.It can be seen from the literature that it is more appropriate to formulate a reasonable and effective urban spatial planning scheme than to adopt policies such as parking fees, single and double number traffic restrictions, which is based on the benign control of the relationship between the built environment and commuter travel. In this paper, the commuting situation of 14 traffic districts in Juye County and its surrounding areas is taken as the research object, and the influence of heterogeneous built environment of traffic districts on the choice of commuting mode is considered.Collect 1611 effective commuting data.In order to find out the factors that affect the choice of commuting mode, this paper divides the influencing variables into two categories: Individual, family attribute variables and built environment variables. The built environment variables of the traffic area are taken as the group level variables, and the individual and family attribute variables are taken as the individual level variables.Personal and family attribute variables include: gender, age, personal monthly income, occupation, number of trips today, family population, number of trips, family monthly income, number of family bicycles, number of family electric vehicles, number of family motorcycles, number of family cars, number of pre purchased cars and commuting mode.Through descriptive analysis, the structure proportion characteristics of various commuting ways in individual and family attribute variables are obtained.POI data is an important data source for quantifying and evaluating heterogeneous built environment. In this paper,POI is divided into 13 categories. The variables of built environment include: the relationship between occupation and residence, the density of traffic facilities and the mixed degree of land use.The absolute value of the difference between the number of jobs and the number of population in the traffic district indicates the situation of the relationship between employment and housing. The sum of intersection density and bus stop density in each traffic area indicates the density of traffic facilities. The mixed entropy of land use indicates the mixed degree of land use.The evaluation system of heterogeneous built environment has been established. The commuting mode selection of residents in the same traffic area is affected by the same built environment, which leads to the independent commuting data, while the commuting mode selection of residents in different traffic areas is different. In this paper, the heterogeneity of built-up environment is included in the impact on the choice of commuting mode of residents. In order to describe the impact of heterogeneous built environment on the commuting mode of residents,a hierarchical linear model(HLM)based modeling method is proposed. This method can not only reflect the influence of various variables on the choice of commuting mode, but also verify the effectiveness of heterogeneous built environmental assessment system. This paper takes individual and family attribute variables, built environment variables of each traffic area as independent variables, and commuting mode as dependent variables, constructs a model of residents' commuting mode selection under the influence of heterogeneous built environment, and explores the impact of heterogeneous built environment on Residents' commuting mode selection. The results show that the heterogeneity of occupation residence relationship has a significant positive correlation with the choice of commuting mode. The heterogeneity of traffic facility density and land use mix has a significant negative correlation with commuting mode.Gender, age, personal monthly income, family monthly income, the number of family motorcycles and family cars have a significant impact on the commuting style of residents.Gender and age have a negative correlation with commuting mode choice, while individual monthly income, family monthly income, family motorcycles and family cars have a positive correlation with commuting mode choice.According to the research conclusion, some suggestions are put forward to improve the built-up environment of the traffic district and the planning and construction of the traffic system, which is helpful to optimize the built-up environment of the central city, improve the commuting mode of the residents, and promote the sound development of the small and medium-sized cities.
