Objective1.To study the consumption of sugary foods and the%total energy of sugary foods for Chinese children aged 24-71 months in 2013.2.To calculate the consumption and e%total energy of total sugar and added sugar in Chinese children aged 24-71 months in 2013.3.To analyze the influencing factors of sugary food intake among Chinese children aged 24-71 months in 2013,which can provide scientific reference for research on children's sugary food consumption and provide scientific basis for the related departments to establish relevant policies.Subjects and Methods SubjectsThis study was conducted among children aged 24-71 months who participated in the dietary review in the "Chinese Nutrition and Health Surveillance in 2013”,for a total of 1946 children. The data was the basic family information and 3 days 24-hours dietary recall in this survey.MethodsAccording to the Chinese Food Composition Table,334 sugary foods are extracted, combined with actual consumption of sugar in the 2013 Chinese Children's Dietary Survey Food, and the total sugar content is detected to form the Chinese Children's Total Sugar Database. Then we analyzed 24-71 months Chinese children's consumption proportion, consumption rate,%total energy of sugary food, intake of total sugar,%total energy of total sugar. The intake and%total energy of added sugar was calculated based on the USDA Database for the Added Sugars Content of Selected Foods(2006).All the data cleaning and analysis was finished by using SAS 9.4.Continuous data are normally distributed and described by form of mean,t test is used for the mean of two groups, and variance analysis is used for the mean of three groups and above. The chi-square test is used for the difference test of consumption rate. The multivariate logistic regression model is used for the influence factors of children's intake of sugary food.Results1.Children's sugary food consumption in 2013In 2013,there were 1,283 children aged 24-71 months consumed sugary foods, and the consumption rate was 65.9%.It was higher for urban children's than rural children(76.1%Vs 56.5%).The highest consumption rate was in the 24-35 months-old group(69.6%).The lowest rate of children aged 48-59 months was 63.3%.Boys'consumption rate was lower than that of girls, which was 65.8%and 66.0%,respectively.2.Sugary food consumption distributionFrom the perspective of the distribution of consumer groups,tThe children who consumed sugary foods in 2013 were higher in urban than that of rural. The main consumption occasion was in the snack time of morning, afternoon, andevening. The proportion of sugary foods consumed was 23.7%,30.2%and 20.3%,respectively.The main consumption place was at home(79.2%).As to consumption of sugary foods, among the children's consumption of sugary foods in 2013,the proportion of instant foods was the largest(45.9%).The top 5 most frequently consumed of sugary foods were biscuits, bread, yogurt, cake, and lactic acid beverage.3.%Total energy of sugary foodsIn 2013,the%total energy of sugary foods for children aged 24-71 months was 12.8%.The urban area was higher than rural areas, and the%total energy was 13.8%and 11.8%(P<0.0001).The%total energy of sugary foods increased with age(F-O.55,P=0.0009).The percentage of energy supply was highest in boys aged 24 to 35 months in urban areas(15.3%),and the lowest percentage was in boys aged 60-71 months in rural areas(8.4%).In 2013,children consumed eight types' sugar containing foods. The top one was instant foods(10.3%,)while 10.2%for boys and 10.4%for girls.Children in rural areas had the highest%total energy of sugar containing food for cake and dessert(10.7%),and the top one was instant foods in rural areas(10.3%.).4.Total sugar and added sugar intake. The average consumption of total sugar was 23.7 g/day per child, while the average consumption of boys was 24.0 g/day and the girl was 23.5 g/day(F=0.14,P=0.7132).The total sugar intake in urban children was 27.7g/day,and 18.4g/day for rural children. The difference was statistically significant(F=53.05,P<0.0001).In 2013,the average daily intake of added sugar for children aged 24-71 months in China was 21.2 grams per child. The boyswere 21.4 grams and 21 grams in girls was.The added sugar intake of children in urban areas was 25.9g/day and 16.4g/day for rural children, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.0001).5.%Total energy of total sugar and added sugarThe%total energy of total sugar of children aged 24-71 months in China in 2013 was 3.9%.The%total energy for boys and girls were 3.8%and 4.0%,respectively.The%total energy of urban children's energy contribution was 4.2%and 3.6%for rural children. It was higher in urban areas(F=15.73,P<0.0001).In terms of age groups, the%total energy in the younger age group was higher(F=21.93,P<0.0001).The%total energy of added sugar was 3.7%.There was no difference for energy contribution between boys and girls(F=0.01,P=0.9203).Children aged 24-35 months showed a highest percentage of energy contribution(4.2%),while the lowest was 3.1%in children aged 60-71 months. It was decreased with the ages from lower to higher%total energy(F=5.78,P=0.0006).The ratio of sugar-supplying for urban children was 4.0%,which was higher than 3.4%for rural children(F=10.60,P=0.0012).6.Analysis of influencing factors of sugary food intake A multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors of sugary food consumption among children aged 24-71 months in 2013.The results showed that areas and household income were associated with the consumption of sugary foods,When controlled the other factors, the children in urban and higher levels of household income might consume more sugary foods.ConclusionIn 2013,the consumption rate of urban children's was higher than that of rural children. The main consumption occasion was in the snack time of morning, afternoon, andevening, and the main consumption place was at home.In the consumption of sugary foods, the top two were instant foods and dairy and dairy products. The%total energy of total sugar and added sugar among children were lower than the recommended value of the World Health Organization. The average intake of total sugar and the added sugarwere also lower than the World Health Organization's recommendation. The further researchshould pay more attention on the children from urban areas and higher household income.
