Xu Xiaohu(Joan-Staley Baker)is an outstanding contemporary researcher of Chinese ancient Calligraphy and paintings.In order to identify the authenticity of Chinese ancient Calligraphy and paintings,She moved from Canada to Taipei by picking up WuZhen's work who is Famous Four in Yuan's dynasty from The Palace Museum of Taipei as prime objects in her research,using methods like the form of Western analysis,the research contribution Japan made to Chinese calligraphy and painting,and traditional Chinese identification to find the real WuZhen in her mind little by little literally and she wrote down the important academic work "Old Masters Repainted: Wu Zhen(1280-1354),Prime Objects and Accretions" afterward,and received a Dr.degree from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom on it.This article focus on three issues in layers,First,the family background of Xuxiaohu and the relationship as a student with her;Second,based on her identification method and academic attitude with Wu Zhen's calligraphy and painting research as core analysis;Third,the indicator value of studying forge at calligraphy cohort.It is hoped that through this article,it can lead to a further concern on authenticity of Chinese calligraphy and paintings by analyzing different identification methods from both domestic and overseas researchers.
