During late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty,there are numerous adherents of Ming Dynasty,and “four monks in Ming Dynasty” are especially famous.However,unknown but entitled with “the genius in poem,calligraphy and painting”,Dan Dang is not inferior to “four monks in Ming Dynasty”.As a scholar first and then a monk,he went through setbacks and misfortune in the turbulent times,but he had achievements in calligraphy and painting,which is lucky for later generations.The rise of calligraphy and painting is doomed to be destined;poetry and painting are often called sister arts,and the relationship among the three is very close.In the history of Chinese art,there are a great number of famous people roll painters and calligraphers or poets into one.Wang Wei's poems and paintings are extremely mysterious;Su Shi's poems and calligraphy are magnificent;Zhao Mengfu harmonizes calligraphy and painting perfectly;Dong Qichang also interprets the relationship between painting and calligraphy accurately.With the development of literati paintings,the art theories of "painting with poetry" and "painting with calligraphy" appeared and improved constantly,and matured in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.As a representative of the painting and calligraphy of the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty,Dan Dang is good at painting best,followed by calligraphy.From his works,we can find he combined poetry with painting,calligraphy with painting commonly,which are the most distinctive features of his calligraphy and painting art.So as it a basis of the exploration of painting and calligraphy art,we will found profound mystery.This paper begins with Dan Dang's painting and calligraphy art,from the views of “ painting with poetry” and “painting with calligraphy”,combined with the specific works to analyze the characteristics of Dan Dang's painting and calligraphy art,and expound on his status and influence in the history of painting and calligraphy.It is very important to understand the history of calligraphy and painting in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty by analyzing the great master.The main content of this paper is divided into four parts:The first part is "Dan Dang and his artistic origin".This chapter mainly focuses on his life,mentoring relationship and social background.As a Confucian scholar first and then monk,he lived a bumpy life.He has been the student of Dong Qichang,Chen Jiru and so on,and has greatachievements in poetry,calligraphy and painting.At the end of the Ming and early Qing Dynasty,the great master maintained his love for his country,left a sense of pride,became one of the most numerous survivors of the Ming dynasty.The second part is "Zen's performance in Dan Dang's artistic creation".This chapter mainly analyzes the relationship between Zen and Dan Dang's poetry,painting and calligraphy from Zen's ideas.As a scholar,he had a profound Confucian foundation,and after he became a monk,he followed Zhan Ranyunmen,and Cang Xue to learn Zen Buddhism,and acquired the Zen's true spirit.In the works of Dan Dang,it is very natural to reveal the Zen's thoughts.The third part is “the analysis of Dan Dang's painting and calligraphy art”.This chapter mainly analyzes Dan Dang's calligraphy and painting art,which closely related with two kings of art views,“painting with calligraphy” and “painting with poetry”,using the two points of view to analyze his specific works of calligraphy and painting,and his artistic style.Dan Dang has his unique ideas and thoughts of painting and calligraphy art,which his calligraphy and painting works can show everywhere.This style is the result of integration of his secular knowledge and Zen thoughts,and perfect control of painting and calligraphy art.The fourth part is "the position and influence of Dan Dang in the history of painting and calligraphy".On the basis of combing the achievements of Dan Dang in calligraphy and painting,this chapter analyzes his status and influence of in the history of painting and calligraphy.Living in the southern Yunnan region for a long time,his works are not widely spread,but his artistic achievements are no less than those of “the four monks in the late Ming Dynasty".However,their artistic statuses are very different.His artistic status has never been matched with his artistic achievements,but as further study,he will have a proper place in the history of painting and calligraphy.
