With the rapid development of society,economy and culture,raising a pet has been more and more popular.Thus,there are different names for the pet which are not only for the owners to call their pets,but also serve as the mirror of the owners' mind and social status.To carry out the research and the investigation on the names of pets has a significance to enrich the theory of naming research;to understand the actual condition of pets' names can guide the pet owners to name their pets appropriatelyThis paper includes three chapters:The first chapter is to explain the objects and the methods of the research,including research objects,methods and basic results.The results of the research show that the pets' names can be divided as the type of characteristic that the name is directly related to the pets' characteristics,and the type of non-characteristic that the name is not directly related to the pets' characteristic.In addition,the pets' names are loud,easy to call,soft and intimate for the sound.Moreover,the names are colloquial and indicate the owners' character.The owners' age,gender,educational background,job,and family life condition will also affect the name of the pet to a certain extent.The second chapter mainly analyzes and explores the social psychology shown in the pets' names,as the pets' names reflect the psychology of love,loneliness,being special and pursuit of good luck,etc.The third chapter mainly analyzes and explains the problems,and then related suggestions are put forward to the pets' names.Now some of the pets' names are human appellations,some are same as the people's names,and some are uncivilized words,so it is necessary to improve the cultural quality of concerned people,to guild people to form correct concept about pet naming,and to perfect law and regulation.
