"Chinese New Year" is a documentary published by the BBC in 2016.The video shows the Chinese New Year to the world with their unique and fresh perspective.The documentary has also been well received at home and abroad.Therefore,the author selects the documentary to simulate the consecutive interpretation of English and Chinese.According to the characteristics of the documentary and the differences between Chinese and Western languages,it summarizes some problems in the consecutive interpretation and finds solutions.Based on the documentary,the writer analyzes the problems encountered in the process of consecutive interpretation and find solutions.This thesis includes four parts.In this practice,the writer faced with many difficulties and problems.Then the writer analyzed and summarized the main problems in this interpreting process,including the translation of long and complex sentences,the omission of information and mistranslation,and the problem of figure mistranslation.According to the problems and difficulties,the writer puts forward some coping strategies,including information reorganization,conversion of part of speech,omission,effective use of keywords and meaning groups,semantic understanding and information extraction,clearing the logical relation of sentences.Meanwhile,according to the characteristics of short-term memory,there are three effective ways of figure translation,namely,reciting training,special symbols training and shadow exercise.The writer analyzes the audio files and notes,summarizes the problems and finds the solutions.Through this simulation practice,more proficient work will be secured in interpreting skills and improvement,thus laying a solid foundation for future interpretation work.
