The formal language of Minimal Art has a profound impact on the exploration of sculpture in the development of Chinese contemporary art.The article works on the aftermath of "The 85'New Tide Art" in the new China,and the gradual simplicity and generalization of the expression of sculpture language,as well as how Chinese artists have been refining and applying the minimalist methodology.Through studying the history of the important schools of modernism in the last century,the evolution of the works by the representative artists,and the analogy of Chinese artists,the goal is to reflect on the future development of Chinese contemporary sculpture in the post-modern context,then to promote the creation of minimalism in contemporary world.First of all,this article takes the clues of the visual language of minimal sculptures prevailed in the US in the 1960s after the Second World War,and follows the idea of the representative figures of Western minimal sculpture art,to summarize the features of minimal sculpture,such as form,connotation,theatricality and spatiality.In the second half of the article,the emphasis will be placed on the references and applications of the artistic language of Minimal Art in Chinese contemporary art world,and an in-depth analysis in the causes of the overdoze and misread of minimalism.Finally,based on the previous research,the article explores the new possibility of Chinese contemporary art in the application of minimalism,which is,to develop Minimalism in the context of globalization.Under the dominant discourse of Western art,how Chinese contemporary sculpture inherits and breaks through the formal language itself,thus demonstrating an universal and free value independent from Western contemporary art.Nowadays,the value of most contemporary Chinese art is demonstrated merely by using geopolitics and identity to create the illusion of the so-called "Chinese contemporary art." No new,truly creative language is available.Therefore,the construction of new,simple materials and language has become more and more important,and it is this unknown that makes the development of Chinese contemporary art complicated and attractive.
