A Study Of Loulan's And Gao Chang's "Jijiu Pian"

The Ji Jiu Pian,as an important dictionary since the Han Dynasty,has had a profound impact in history.Both the Loulan edition Ji Jiu Pian and the Gaochang edition Ji Jiu Pian,respectively unearthed in 1915 and 2005,have provided new materials and perspective for the study of Ji Jiu Pian.Taking the the Loulan edition Ji Jiu Pian and the Gaochang edition Ji Jiu Pian as research subjects,this paper carries out literature and image analysis from two aspects of text content and calligraphy art,further compares the calligraphy of the Loulan edition and the Gaochang edition of Ji Jiu Pian with that of the unearthed documents in Turpan,inscriptions of the Wei,Jin,and Southern and Northern Dynasties and received edition Ji Jiu Pian,and analyzes writing characteristics of the regular script in Turpan during the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties and the evolution of the brushwork method of Zhangcao script,thereby creating a complete reflection on the texts and calligraphy art of the Loulan edition and the Gaochang edition of Ji Jiu Pian.The main content of this paper is divided into three parts.The first part is to examine the text content and variants of the newly unearthed Ji Jiu Pian by combing the unearthed Ji Jiu Pian with the received edition Ji Jiu Pian,and examine the writing style of two variant characters as well as one variant in the unearthed Ji Jiu Pian and causes of the variants to supplement the received edition Ji Jiu Pian.The second part is to analyze the stroke form of the regular script in the Loulan edition and the Gaochang edition of Ji Jiu Pian to study characteristics in the evolution from the clerical script to the regular script,and to study the writing style of the regular script formed due to the written content and the geographical impact in the same period in the same region.The third part is to analyze the writing technique of rotation and the application of shorthand,omission writing and ligature cursive writing in the Loulan edition Ji Jiu Pian,further compare the Zhangcao script of the Songjiang received edition Ji Jiu Pian with that of other manuscript editions of Ji Jiu Pian,and examine physical changes of the Zhangcao script,thus concluding that the standard form of Zhangcao script is established with rotation as the basis writing technique and with specific shorthand,omission writing and ligature cursive writing as the basic cursive law and clarifying that Ji Jiu Pian is named because its text content is "Ji Jiu"(whose literal meaning in Chinese is"hurriedly")and has nothing to do with the creation of Zhangcao script.Through the study on the words and calligraphy of the Loulan edition and the Gaochang edition of Ji Jiu Pian,this paper clarifies the writing characteristics of documents in the Loulan and Gaochang areas and the writing standard of Zhangcao script,in order to instruct the contemporary calligraphy creation.
