The "History Of Mind" And "History Of Poetry" By Lu Song, A Poet In The Late Qing Dynasty

Lu Song,a poet of late Qing Dynasty,records true feelings during his life,presents the hardships of people and describes individual and national destiny with his poetry.The naming,composing and preserving of his sixteen poetry volumes,The Poetry Manuscript of Yi Tiao Shan Guan(1),all reveal his personal pursuit of poetry creation,condense the Lu family's cultural heritance and are imprinted with the historical memory of the inconstant fate and conditions.Moreover,the contents of his poetry profoundly reflect the transformation of individual situations and the wax and wane of the country resulted from the upheavals in the temporal society such as the Opium War and the Taiping Rebellion.Therefore,Lu Song's poetry works have both the value of “History of Heart” and “History of Poetry”.In addition,in his over-50-year poetry creation,the poetry style of Lu Song transfers twice,which can be regarded as a typical epitome of the transformation of the poetic ethos from Jiaqing to Xianfeng;the contents of his poetry have both progressiveness and limitation,which is also closely related to the changes of the poet's own situation.This paper consists of five parts: the introduction briefly introduces the family background,life and works of Lu Song,expounds the reason and significance of the thesis,reviews the researches including relevant topics of Lu Song's poetry study,Lu Song's family,life and interpersonal relations study,poetry creation during the Opium War study and all literati' poetry creation during the Taiping Rebellion study since the 1960 s,indicates the achievements and shortcomings among them and,on that basis,affirms the focus of the author's explorative content when writing the paper.The first chapter starts with Lu Song's poetry collection combined with the naming,composing and preserving of The Poetry Manuscript of Yi Tiao Shan Guan,explores the abundant implication contained in the poetry,probes into the relationship of poetry collection with Lu Song's individual destiny,the cultural heritage of Lu's family,and the upheavals in the temporal society.The second chapter focuses on the mental history of Lu Song.Based on discussing his insistence of temperamental creation and combined with the related contents in the poetry,it shows the burden of fame and the worry of livelihood and safety risk undergone in the poet's rough life.The third chapter discusses about Lu Song's creation orientation.According to Lu Song's imitation of Tu Fu's poems,this chapter explains his view and his sense of responsibility of “Poetry History” as the creation pursuit are explained and analyzes creation situation of the poet in the peaceful period,Opium War,post Opium War and Taiping Rebellion in detail so that demonstrates the value of the poetry “to preserve the history” and “to supplement the history”.The fourth chapter generally summarizes the situation of Lu Song's poetry creation for more than 50 years,analyzes the characteristics of Lu Song's different writing stages in the early,middle and late period and points out that the style of Lu Song's poems undergoes transformation.Then it explores the relationship between Lu Song's personal creation and poetic ethos and expounds the progressiveness and limitation of Lu Song's poetic thought.
