Junior high school students are in an important period of physical and mental development, and they are subject to psychological pressures in all aspects, which in turn reflect the individual's social adaptation. In recent years, emotional intelligence has become more and more important to the life of individuals, and it affects people's physical and mental health and social adaptation. Therefore, this study aims to reveal the current characteristics of junior high school students' emotional intelligence, psychological stress and social adaptability,as well as to explore the relationship between them, and try to intervene in the psychological stress of junior high school students.Based on the above objectives, this study uses literature research method, questionnaire survey method and experimental method to carry out research work.Firstly,777 junior high school students in Guangzhou and Foshan were investigated by using the Emotional Intelligence Scale(Chinese version),the Stressor Scale for Middle School Students and the Social Adaptability Scale for Middle School Students. The present situation of emotional intelligence, psychological stress and social adaptability of junior high school students was initially understood, and the relationship among them was revealed.Secondly,on the basis of the above investigation,28 junior high school students(14 subjects in the experimental group and 14 subjects in the control group)were selected for the psychological stress intervention experiment, and the popular "Mandala self-healing painting" was used to intervene in the psychological stress of the experimental group. Then,by comparing the differences between the pre-test and post-test of the experimental group and the control group,we can verify the effectiveness of psychological stress intervention to alleviate the psychological stress of junior high school students and the feasibility of improving social adaptability. The results show that:(1)Emotional intelligence of junior high school students can positively predict social adaptability, which can be partly achieved through the mediation of psychological stress.(2)Junior high school students' emotional intelligence regulates the second half of the mediating process of emotional intelligence influencing social adaptability through psychological stress:Compared with individuals with low emotional intelligence, the negative predictive effect of psychological stress on social adaptability is stronger in individuals with high emotional intelligence, that is,the mediating effect of psychological stress is also stronger.(3)By using the “Mandala Growth and Self-Healing Painting”,the psychological stress intervention effectively slowed down the overall level of junior high school students' psychological stress, but the effect on improving the social adaptability level of junior high school students was not significant. The results reveal the influence and mechanism of emotional intelligence on social adaptability, which is of great significance to the mental health education of junior high school students.
