Taking the 8 groups of words with the most abundant meanings in Swadesh's 100 word list as an example,on the basis of a thorough investigation and analysis of the distribution of the core words in Chinese and English,a systematic description of the semantic features of the Chinese and English core words is carried out.At the diachronic level, the origin and evolution of each meaning are investigated to understand the development and evolution of the meaning of the core word. This article probes into the deep relationship between the restrictive mechanism of development and evolution and the meaning of words, and makes a detailed analysis and summary of the core terms by using the theory of general linguistics, the theory of lexical history, and the theory of semantics. Therefore, the evolution of the meaning of the core words and the reasons for the evolution of the meaning of the core words are of practical value to the study and learning of vocabulary. To do a good part of the basic work for the study of the history of Chinese vocabulary.By adopting the method of synchronic plane linkage, all the meanings of the core words are regarded as a whole, and in this semantic cluster,we explore the inherent and implicit connections, and thus link the various meanings into a single clue.It uses the original meaning to include many meanings derived from it,thus promoting the development of semantic research in revealing the motivation and development process of word meaning evolution. On the basis of comprehensive corpus collection and detailed synchronic and diachronic description of the core words in Chinese and English, this article uses the theory of contrastive linguistics to make a contrastive analysis of the evolution path and mechanism of the core words in Chinese and English. The theory of cognitive linguistics gives a more comprehensive explanation of different cognitive models in Chinese and English;By using the theory of cultural linguistics, this article abstracts the elements of national culture contained in the core words of Chinese and English, and probes into the reasons for the similarities and differences in the evolution of the core words of Chinese and English from various angles and levels. It is intended to construct a framework for the evolution of the meaning of the core words-the multi-directional distribution centered on the meaning of the core words, which will contribute to the learning of Chinese and English languages and promote the effective conduct of cross-cultural communication activities. The meaning statistics of this article are taken from the Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th Edition),the Chinese Dictionary, the Oxford High order English-Chinese Dictionary(8th edition),the Oxford English Dictionary and Online Etymology Dictionary. This paper consists of ten chapters. The first chapter is an introduction, the second to ninth chapters study eight groups of core words, including "hao" and "good","lai" and "come","xing" and "walk","kou" and "mouth","pi" and "skin","re" and "hot"."zuo" and "sit","gen" and "root",each chapter mainly includes four parts, namely, word meaning traceability, word meaning extension, synchronic contrast, reason analysis.Chapter 10 is the conclusion.
