A Comparative Study Of The Evolution Of Chinese And English Core Words And Vocabulary Teaching Of Chinese As A Foreign Language

This study is based on Swadesh’s hundred words list,and selects eight groups of core words with rich meanings and few previous studies.The comparison of the Chinese and English senses of eight core words is of great research value,but it is seldom concerned by other scholars.In the specific research,the authoritative materials are Oxford Advanced Learner’s English-Chinese dictionary,Oxford English Dictionary,Chinese dictionary,Peking University CCL corpus and so on are used as important analysis basis,focusing on the distribution of Chinese and English core words and their semantic features.In the diachronic level,this paper investigates the origin and evolution of meanings of the core words to understand the general development and evolution process of the core words’ meaning,as well as the constraints in the process and the impact on the internal role of the words.With the help of relevant theories,such as general linguistics,semantics,vocabulary history,etc.,this paper makes an in-depth and systematic discussion on the meaning of the core words,thus presenting the semantic performance of the core words.This paper discusses the practical value of the rules of the semantic variation and development and provides a part of the basic work for the study of the history of Chinese vocabulary.By adopting the method of synchronic research,this paper regards all the senses of the core words as a whole,and explores the internal implied relations in this word meaning cluster,so as to link all the senses in one clue,and use the original meaning to cover many senses derived from it,so as to promote the progress of semantic research in revealing the motivation and development process of word meaning evolution.First of all,this paper summarizes the corpus of core words in Chinese and English,and discusses their diachronic and synchronic development respectively.Then,guided by linguistic theory,this paper grasps their respective evolution process and influencing factors and finds out their similarities and differences.Then,based on the theory of cognitive linguistics,this paper presents the unique cognitive models of Chinese and English,and refines the Chinese and English core words by using the theory of cultural linguistics;explores the reasons for the similarities and differences in the evolution of Chinese and English core words from multiple perspectives and levels;attempts to construct a framework for the evolution of the meaning of the core words,that is,the multi-directional distribution centered on the original meaning of the core words,which is conducive to the Chinese English language learning and the effective cross-cultural communication.And through the language ontology research language theory,promote the language and cultural exchanges,then give targeted suggestions for vocabulary teaching of TCFL.As far as the research field of sense statistics is concerned,mainly refer to modern Chinese Dictionary(7th Edition),Chinese dictionary,Oxford Advanced English-Chinese Dictionary(9th Edition),Oxford English Dictionary and online Etymology Dictionary.This paper consists of nine chapters.The first to eighth chapters study eight groups of core words,including "ming" and "name","fei" and"fly","yan" and "say","jiao" and "horn","yuan" and "round","li" and"stand","gu and "bone","xiao" and "small".Each chapter mainly includes four parts,namely,word meaning tracing,word meaning extension,synchronic contrast,reason analysis;the ninth chapter focuses on vocabulary teaching and puts forward valuable suggestions for TCFL.
