| This paper is a translation report of My Personal Experience at the Tokyo Trial,which was written by Mei Ju-ao and was sorted out by his offspring Mei Xiao’ao and Mei Xiaokan.The book included the diaries written by Mr.Mei,the Chinese judge of the Tokyo Trial,as well as the important book of the reflections on the Tokyo Trial – The Far East International Military Tribunal after the trial.The number of the books on the research of the Tokyo Trial isn’t so much as most of them are concerned with historical research.Besides,the number of the authors who had experienced the trial personally is so rare that the translation of this book is even more important.All in all,the translation of My Personal Experience at the Tokyo Trial made it possible for readers to have an overall understanding of the Tokyo Trial as well as the history of Japan’s invasion of China in a clear and lucid way.The translation of My Personal Experience at the Tokyo Trial can be divided into two parts,the first being The Far East International Military Tribunal and the latter The Tokyo Trail Diaries.My translation part is Chapter 3 The Arrest and Prosecution of Japanese Major War Criminals,the words of which amount to nearly 80,000 and the translation of which cost me nearly half a year.The whole process can be generally divided into three parts: preparations before translation,management of translation and post-translation management,in which the information search behavior all played an indispensable role.Information search behavior,which was categorized as part of translation competence,has a large number of definitions from scholars.They came up with three models of translation competence,all of which contain the information search behavior as their constituent element.Before the translation,the translator browsed through the text and sorted out some terms,which were to be searched and standardized in translation and post-translation management.While from a more microcosmic perspective,information search behavior in each chapter involves the search of name,historical events,posts and organizations,etc. |
