The progress of Information and Communication Technology(ICT),as is partly reflected in the constant emergence of such tools as online dictionaries, corpus and computer-aided translation software, has greatly transformed the environment and patterns of translation work. The ability to "search" and "select" with the help of the Internet and computer technology is thus required of all those who engage in the modern language service industry. This research grows out of the E-C translation of Introduction to Mass Communications,a U.S.college textbook that gives readers a full description of the mass communications industries.Since Chapter 21 covers a range of proper nouns, professional terms and specific words in context, the author capitalizes on the Internet resources and computer technology for lexical rendering. It follows with the practice that 1)efficient search techniques save much effort a modern translator makes in the translation process;2)in addition to search techniques, human "selection"of searching results is so crucial to determine whether the TT is of high quality as a whole;3)it remarks fruitful translation strategies—like transliteration, literal translation, annotation, amplification, compensation, domestication, etc.for effective lexical translation. |
