The Chinese classical dance was born almost simultaneously with the founding of the People's Republic of China.Since its establishment,Chinese classical dance has never stopped to transmit globally, and its unique value has continuously been proven in practice throughout history. This thesis seeks to discuss the global transmission of Chinese classical dance, with the Chinese classical dance teaching curriculum of the Beijing Dance Academy being the main research object, while the phenomena in Chinese classical dance choreography is also within the realm of research. It first examines the purpose of founding Chinese classical dance, and argues its occurrence is related not only to nation-building,but also to the need for China to have a representation in the global field of concert dance.By revisiting the history of the global transmission of Chinese classical dance, this thesis analyzes the backgrounds of each period, the stage of development of the dance form, the content of global transmission, and the acceptance of global transmission.Based on this,it is proposed that under the vision of relevant research results of "Chinese culture 'Going Global'","National Image Shaping" and "Cultural Soft Power",Chinese classical dance is an effective carrier of culture in the context of global transmission. At the same time, historical global transmission of Chinese classical dance has also aided in the development and improvement of the dance form itself, reassuring the significance of the act of global transmission. As previous records and researches on the global transmission of Chinese classical dance are mostly done from the perspective of the "supply-side",resulting in a significant lack of knowledge of the "demand-side",that is,the analysis of the audience's perspective, this thesis conducted an audience survey of the 7 shows performed in 4 different U.S.cities by the Beijing Dance Academy Department of Chinese classical dance in summer 2019.The survey was conducted in hopes of receiving first-hand feedbacks from the audience, and realizing existing issues in the global transmission of Chinese classical dance.Combining findings in the surveys and feedbacks from historical practices, this thesis proposes there is significant untapped opportunity in the global transmission of Chinese classical dance at the emerging stage. In the future,Chinese classical dance should deepen the research and construction in areas of transmission methods, disciplinary development, and cross-cultural adaptation.
