As an indispensable part of modern warfare, forces and weapons of aerospace attack have become an important topic in Russian military theoretical research and learning. Therefore, the Military Education School of the Siberian University has compiled a textbook entitled Principles of Forces and Weapons Utilization in Aerospace Attack. It is designed to enable cadets to understand the combat readiness, usage methods, operational tactics and war experience of forces and weapons aerospace attack, inspiring cadets to think about the role of radio technology in aerospace attack and defense. This translation practice uses the textbook as the object of translation(more than 16,000 words in the original text). The author has successfully completed the translation work through the process including background knowledge accumulation, translation tool preparation, actual translating and quality inspection. This textbook is a typical scientific text, with distinct and complex language features at vocabulary, lexical and syntactic levels, which has brought many difficulties to translation practice. Therefore, the equivalent theory and a variety of translation approaches are used to solve difficult problems, including word-for-word translation, word increase and decrease,part-of-speech conversion, the adjustment, separation and combination of sentence elements, lexical meaning extension and contextual coherence. This report aims at summarizing the experience of this translation practice, analyzing the translation approaches of military scientific texts, and providing useful suggestions for the translation of similar texts in the future. The report consists of eight parts: Introduction briefs on the translation report.Chapter 1 mainly describes the background, objects and purposes of the practice.Chapter 2 introduces the translation process, including pre-translation,translation and post-translation work.Chapter 3 analyzes linguistic characteristics of the source text, from vocabulary, lexical and syntactic perspectives, and proposes translation difficulties.Chapter 4 introduces the equivalence theory that provides guidance from the aspects of theoretical applicability, equivalence concept, categories of equivalence, and translation methods.Chapter 5,combining theory and practice, discusses the solutions to difficult problems through analyzing typical cases at word, sentence and paragraph level.Chapter 6 summarizes practical experience, sorts out unresolved issues, and considers how to improve professional quality of translators.Epilogue concludes the entire translation report.
