This paper is a translation report, based on the translation of the essay Vignettes From A Narrative Primer.Though the source text is a legal text about legal narratology,it avoids academic terminology, and compares the literary narrative skills with the legal narrative persuasion skills instead. The theme of the source text is both about law and literature.According to Newmark's Text Typology theory, the source text has both characteristics of informative text and expressive text.It also has the solemnness of legal language and the artistic effect of literary language.Since the source text has both the solemnness of legal language and the artistic effect of literary language, how to translate the words with literary effects in such legal texts has become the biggest difficulty in the translation process. This thesis analyzes the actual vocabulary problems encountered in the translation process, and then summarizes the corresponding translation strategies,in hope of providing references for translation studies in such cross-cutting fields of law and literature from the perspective of vocabulary selection.
