Marx's theory of communism has always been a significant part of Marxist Theory, but scholars used the criticism of capitalism as a starting point in the previous studies on Marx's communist theory and ignored the studies of Marx's communist theory themselves. This paper rearranged Marx's discussion and interpretation of the concept of communism in different periods, and tried to use the concept of communism as a starting point to reexamine the transformation of Marx's idea and the essence of Marx's communist idea, and on this basis to explore the contemporary value of Marx's communist idea.First of all,Marx absorbed the thought of Utopian Socialism in the 19 th century, combined with the realistic living conditions of the proletariat in the early capitalist society, and interpreted the communist theory while criticizing the capitalist society and its ideology.Secondly,Marx discussed communism in different works and explained the four connotations of communism.Thirdly, through the analysis of Marx's equating communism with theory, movement, system and belief,we can find the theoretical logic that imply in Marx's research on communism in different works, whose essence lies in the realization of individual liberation and the rationalization of society. Finally, reconsidering Marx's theory of communism under today's historical conditions has important theoretical value and practical significance for deepening the understanding of Marx's idea, understanding of the thought of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era,and enriching the theoretical connotation of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
