Confucianism Persists: A Study Of Jinan Fuxue Confucian Temple

Confucius was a famous educator,thinker and the founder of Confucian culture in China.As the physical carrier of Confucian culture,the Confucius Temple was originally a special temple commemorating Confucius,and later developed into an architectural form of "the unity of temple and study".In essence,The Confucius temple is the ancient school of local officials.In ancient China,the study of local officials was divided into three levels,the highest of which was the Central Government's Zijian Temple.The second was that of the prefectural level and the county level is the third one.Jinan Fuxue Confucius Temple is a temple at the government level,which serves as a special place for sacrificial purposes,and also a place where ancient school education was carried out.In addition,the temple also bears the heavy responsibility of social education and training students in order to answer the imperial examination.All of the three played a very important role in the history of Chinese education.The inscriptions and plaques of Confucius temple have calligraphy art value,literary value and academic research value,which provides historical data for the study of Confucian temple and Confucianism.However,at present,the public's understanding of the temple is not very comprehensive,and there are even various misunderstandings about the Confucius temple.Based on the above understanding,this paper begins with the historical development and evolution of the Confucius temple,and analyzes thoroughly the historical evolution,the main building and its implication,the inscription and plaque,the sacrificial activities,the education and teaching activities,the social education activities,and the imperial examination activities,hoping to have a more comprehensive description to the Jinan fuxue Confucius Temple,make up for the common people's misunderstanding to the Confucius Temple,thus being able to protect and make full use of the cultural temple more efficiently and enable the Confucianism to inherit forever.In addition to the introduction,the main part of this paper consists of five parts:In the first part,on the basis of a brief analysis of the historical development and evolution of the Confucius Temple from "Temple" to "the unity of temple and study",analyze the historical evolution of Jinan Fuxue Confucius Temple as a system of "the unity of temple and study".Jinan Fuxue Confucius Temple was built at an early age among the existing temples in our country,and its architectural form and scale are also of high specification in the provincial level.The second part analyzes the space layout and architectural meaning of Jinan FuxueConfucius Temple."Minglun Tang" is the main building used for teaching in the temple,"Dacheng Dian" is the main building used for sacrifice.According to the position of "Ming Lun Tang" and "Dacheng Dian",It is judged that the spatial layout of Jinan Fuxue Confucius Temple is that the temple is in the front and the study is behind.The main building of Jinan Fuxue Confucius Temple is divided into two parts,one of which is the "temple" building,the part used for sacrificial purposes.And the other part of the architecture of "learning" is used as part of school education and the implied meaning of them are clarified.The third part,based on the culture of inscription and plaque,summarizes the unique culture formed by the inscription and plaque.The content of the inscription is mainly about the respect to Confucius and Confucian culture,and that of the plague are mostly from Confucian books and have a strong color of imperial power.The inscriptions and plaques of Confucius temple have rich calligraphy art value,literary value and academic research value,enriched the connotation of the temple,which provides historical data for the study of Confucian temple and Confucianism.The fourth part discusses the activities of Jinan Fuxue Confucius Temple.There are four aspects : sacrifice,education and teaching,social education and imperial examination.Jinan Fuxue Confucius Temple,as an ancient Chinese local official study,not only acts as a symbol of Confucian culture,but has also shouldered the important task of social enlightenment,education and teaching,as well as serving the imperial examination.The development and evolution of Jinan Fuxue Confucius Temple fully reflect the fact that the Confucius Temple has come into being because of the presence of imperial examination system.The fifth part is the reflection on how to give full play to the value of Jinan Fuxue Confucius Temple in contemporary times.Jinan Fuxue Confucius Temple is a large ancient architectural community in the urban area of Jinan and has been appraised as the cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.However people still have some misunderstandings of Jinan Fuxue Confucius Temple,regard Jinan Fuxue Confucius Temple only as a tourist attraction and ignore its educational value.So we should give full play to the value of Confucius Temple as a cultural heritage in the contemporary era and as the supplement of school education and moral education shrine,enabling Jinan Fuxue Confucius Temple to make better contributions to society in contemporary times.
