At present,Chinese language education programs that are geared to the younger generation in Indonesia are developing.Many parents think the sooner their children start learning the language the better,so many kindergartens have set up a Chinese class as a compulsory course for the school.This study is first to understand the situation of Chinese education in Indonesia,Indonesian Chinese language education policy,the development of Chinese education in Indonesia,Indonesian national and private kindergarten,the status and function of Chinese teaching in Indonesia,and its development of the future.To learn about the Chinese teaching situation in Indonesia,I choose Kidea Sunter,Jakarta as a research place.The main research methods used in the study are questionnaire,interview,observation.The research mainly concentrates on Chinese curriculum in Kidea Sunter,the attitude of parents towards the Chinese lessons in the kindergarten,the Chinese language teaching and learning environment,Chinese language teachers in the kindergarten,Chinese teaching materials,Chinese classroom teaching,teaching content,teaching method and extracurricular activities of Chinese language.The survey results showed many strengths of the Chinese teaching program in Indonesia,such as:appropriate course setting;the country,school and parents are very supportive of learning Chinese;dedicated Chinese teachers;favorable English and Chinese teaching subjects;flexible and diverse teaching methods for kids.However,the survey also showed some problems of the Chinese teaching program in Indonesia such as:lack of Chinese teachers and experienced teachers;too much teaching material;lack of Chinese language environment.Accordingly,here are some suggestions for improvement:improving the quantity and quality of teachers,valuable teaching contents,and enhancing the environment of learning Chinese.Through this study,we hope to promote the development of Chinese education in kindergartens in Indonesia.
