Democracy is not only related to the happiness of individual life,but also the core of modern political culture.Due to the lack of historical and cultural traditions related to modern "democracy" consciousness in China,the national democracy consciousness is still relatively weak.Therefore,the education of democracy consciousness in primary and secondary schools is an urgent and important issue of the times.The plasticity of pupils is strong.If we want to cultivate the democracy consciousness of the future generation,we must start with pupils.This paper focuses on the cultivation and education of pupils' democracy consciousness.The main issues discussed are the constituents and representation of pupils' democracy consciousness,status quo,influencing factors,and the cultivation of pupils' democracy consciousness effectively.In order to answer these three questions,the paper first reviews and combs all kinds of representative democratic and democratic education thoughts in history,including its type,significance and value of democracy,and typical democratic education thoughts at home and abroad so as to lay a solid theoretical foundation for discussing the concrete constituents,representations,significance and value of pupils' democracy consciousness.Chapter III of the paper specifically analyses the four types and representations of pupils' democratic consciousness,including political,decision-making,academic and communicative democracy consciousness,and discusses the possibility of inoculating pupils' four kinds of democratic consciousness.Next,the thesis chooses a primary school in Shanghai as the subject of case study,using questionnaire,individual interviews and textbook analysis methods comprehensively to investigate the status quo current of the development of pupils' democracy consciousness in this school.On this basis,it analyses the factors influencing pupils' democracy consciousness from the aspects of teachers' own democracy consciousness,democracy consciousness in textbooks and democratic atmosphere in classroom.At length,consciousness in accordance with the findings of questionnaires.It finds out that the cultivation of pupils' democracy consciousness is not well enough.Many elementary students don't have a very good understanding of the definition of democracy,the reason to implement it and how to do it.Moreover,the democracy consciousness of teachers is not good enough.There lacks channels forthem to use textbooks,classrooms and teaching to cultivate the democracy consciousness of pupils.Therefore,this papers puts forward some suggestions accordingly.First,society and schools need to make concrete effort to let the public have a better understanding of democracy education.Second,schools should develop and design democracy textbooks independently;thirdly,democracy education should be enriched in some related textbook writing.Fourthly,teachers need to be organized to read more classic democracy education books;fifthly,the psychology characteristics of pupils needs to be studied further.It should combine direct and indirect democracy education;and combine democracy cognition,experience and implementation together.
