The left-behind children in rural areas can not get full emotional support from their families because their parents go out to work and the guardian’s energy is limited.Rural left-behind children tend to obtain the necessary emotional support from their left-behind or non-left-behind peers who have shared experiences or emotional needs. However, due to the limited cognitive ability of the left-behind children in rural areas, their ability to interact with each other is insufficient or negatively influenced by their peers or peer groups, which leads to the poor quality of emotional support they receive from their peers. Thus affects the rural left-behind children’s healthy growth.First of all, through issuing emotional support scale and community visit in Wuan County,Wufeng Town, the left-behind children in village D were investigated to estimate the emotional support problems and needs of local rural left-behind children. It is found that the main problems and needs of left-behind children in village D are:insufficient opportunities for interaction with peers, low frequency of emotional interaction, insufficient care and support from peers, and quality of emotional support needs to be improved; The need is mainly to learn the necessary methods and skills of emotional communication and expression,to have more opportunities for emotional interaction,to enhance mutual trust and understanding with their peers, and to hope to vent their inner feelings. To encourage and help, improve self-control,and resist the influence of other people’s negative emotions.Secondly, according to the actual needs and willingness of participation of left-behind children in village D,with the support of village cadres and "child companion mothers",In order to analyze the effectiveness of group social work in serving left-behind children and peers in rural areas, group practice activities focused on improving the ability of knowledge and skills and improving the quality of emotional support were carried out respectively. These two cases are "hard work can make up for clumsiness"-emotional support learning group for left-behind children in village D and "multicolored world"-improving the quality of peer emotional support for left-behind children in village D.The first group mainly from the connotation of emotional support, types, skills and methods and other content to carry out service activities; One group carried out practice from defining the self-awareness of the clients in emotional support behavior with their peers, enhancing mutual understanding, identifying the effects of different emotional support, and enhancing their ability to resist negative emotional support. The process, content and effect of group activities were evaluated by means of team activity scale,on-the-spot observation of workers and evaluation of volunteers.Workers reflect and summarize the professional theory, knowledge, methods and skills used in the practical process. Finally, the study believes that the group working method of social work is effective in solving the problem of peer emotional support of left-behind children in rural areas, and it can help solve the common problems of peer emotional support of left-behind children in rural areas through the group method.Improve mutual understanding, help each other solve emotional problems, etc. In order to solve the problem of emotional support for left-behind children in rural areas,we should not only introduce professional strength, but also support the development of local community volunteers to help the healthy growth of left-behind children in rural areas.
