Mathematical modeling is one of the important mathematical literacy.Students with certain mathematical modeling ability can view the world with a mathematical perspective, perceive the relationship between mathematics and life, and develop a strong interest in mathematics. As the key period to cultivate students' mathematical modeling ability, the mathematical modeling ability of students relates to the development of other mathematical literacy, and will have a certain impact on students' learning in the future, especially for the senior primary school students who are in the transition from the concrete operation stage to the formal operation stage.Based on the importance analysis of mathematical modeling and the existing relevant practical investigation, this study finds that it is feasible and valuable to investigate the current situation of mathematical modeling ability of senior primary school students. In this study, students of senior grades(grade 5 and grade 6)in primary schools were tested by compiling test papers on mathematical modeling ability, and questionnaires on students' mathematical modeling ability and interviews with teachers were issued to understand the current situation of students' mathematical modeling ability. The following conclusions were drawn:First, from the analysis of the assessment results of students' mathematical modeling ability,it can be seen that students' answers are incomplete ideas, which indicates that the students' mathematical modeling ability is generally not high.At the same time, from the level of evaluation criteria, students' mathematical modeling ability is at the second level, only a small number of students can reach the third level;Because the problem situation is relatively simple, primary school senior students can understand a certain situation and use the existing mathematical knowledge and experience, basically can reach the first level.Secondly,in the correlation between students' mathematical modeling ability and their mathematical performance,it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between students' mathematical modeling ability and their mathematical performance. The better students' mathematical performance is,the better their mathematical modeling ability is.Thirdly, there is no significant difference between male and female students in the distribution of their mathematical modeling ability. There was no significant difference in modeling level between grades.Although sixth-graders outperformed fifth-graders on the test, the gap was small. This is because the development level of logical thinking of students in grade 5 and grade 6 is still at the same stage, and the demodulation method used in problem solving is relatively consistent.Fourthly,in terms of student questionnaire and teacher interview outline, the senior students of this primary school have a general understanding of mathematical modeling ability and have preliminary mathematical modeling ability. The teachers have some understanding of mathematical modeling and have a good understanding of mathematical modeling teaching. They are able to realize the importance of infiltrating model thinking in teaching and encourage students to discover and explore problems and finally solve problems independently.Based on the above survey conclusions, this study puts forward corresponding Suggestions from three perspectives:school, teachers themselves and classroom teaching. In general:the school should organize relevant training of mathematical modeling for teachers,so that students can fully feel the value of mathematical modeling;Teachers should improve their mathematical modeling literacy and strengthen group cooperation; In classroom teaching, various ways should be used to train and cultivate students' mathematical modeling ability consciously.
