Area is a key part in the field of "graphics and geometry".It is an important part of learning planar graphics after perimeter,and also the basis for students to construct three-dimensional space.Primary school is a critical period for the cultivation of students' geometric intuition,spatial concept and reasoning ability.Therefore,it is essential for teachers to understand the elementary school students' understanding level of area and their mistakes in solving area problems.In recent years,the theoretical research on area is improving,but the practical research and error analysis on the concept and calculation of area are not enough.Based on this,this study "the fifth grade students area of the understanding current situation and the type of problem solving error" as the research question,in accordance with the"compulsory education mathematics curriculum standards(2011 edition)requirements and combined with SOLO classification theory from the concept of cognitive,area measure and calculation of two dimensions to build area of understanding level assessment tools,and knowledge,strategic errors,logical errors and negligence errors as the analytical framework,for students to study the error area of problem solving.The results show that:1.Students' perception of actual area and understanding of area concept in conceptual cognition focus on the level of single structure,while the calculation of regular graph area and the estimation of irregular graph area are mostly at the level of multiple structure.This shows that although students have a low level of understanding in conceptual cognition,they are good at solving problems with the area formula.2.When students solve the area problem,the error types mainly focus on knowledge error,strategic error,logical error and negligence error.Among them,the knowledge errors are that students fail to master the basic knowledge and basic concepts of area,and students will make strategic errors and logical errors due to the lack of problem-solving strategies or poor thinking quality.Based on the analysis of the results of the study,in view of the students to solve the problems about the area,this research that: in the area of teaching teachers should create a good learning situation,through to present abundant instances or variant graphics to strengthen student's understanding of area of knowledge,teachers should combine the actual penetration "concretization " problem-solving strategies to all students,will effectively regulate students' problem solving procedure,at the same time also pay attention to the development and utilization of resources of students' errors.
